Bill: You are on to something . . . . and something very interesting. The discussion can't be held here. Drop me a note sometime and I'll share a few things with you. I spent a good part of the 27 page introduction in the book dispelling some myths. I hope you enjoy it. Court |

Rocket, if you took on Erik's role LMFAO! That's a good one! I needed a laugh. You do need to start a MC company; I can't wait to see what you come up with. Laughter is good. You didn't like my napkin sketch? Dave, it's great that you have a sense of humour. Kudos to your wisdom. You're a lovely bloke. Rocket (Message edited by rocketman on January 10, 2008) |

Dave is a shinning example. He still shows me friendship and respect in his posts, even when my babbling is contrary to his beliefs. He has the ability to never get personal, nor ever take anything personal. You and Erik could learn a great deal by him. Rocket |

"Why does it not look as good as the 1098? I think if looks good and the 1098, while pretty, looks not only uncomfortable but very hard to ride to work in an urban setting. Add in the rather involved and regular maintenance schedule, one competent dealer 30 miles away, and a price tag several thousands of dollars higher and you get a bike that would not make my wanna buy list until somebody gives me large sums of cash." I don't think anyone can knock the success of Ducatis 916 and it's offspring. It has been hailed as one of the most beautiful bikes ever built and in it's present "R" form produces 180HPs. If it is Buells intent to compete with it, they are in for a major disappointment. They are not on the same playing field. |

Last week MCN published an article of their testing back to back a 1098 and a 999 at Jerez. Testing was done endurance style by two riders frequently swapping and swapping back both bikes in an effort to create parity between riders and times set. Cut a long story short, the 1098 was on average 2 seconds a lap faster despite being more focused and harder to ride fast. MCN also said they could have achieved 3 seconds a lap faster than the 999 had they have had more time to set the 1098 up better. And they loved the 999 despite all that. Rocket |

Rocket, you ripped off Erik Buells underslung exhaust. Are you saying BMC has something right? We just got back from the unveiling of the 1125r at our local dealer. We saw Buells from as early as 1991(?) Court, you remember that bike that baffled you guys at the Larz show? It was there. The 1125r is a beautiful machine.I tried to see the criticism with the fairing but...in person it's lovely. We aren't just about Buell motorcycles' anymore...we're a community. And there were plenty of us NEBO guys'(gals too) tonight. |

Hmm.. an earlier Cycle World article turned that around the other way. With MANY caveats they crowned the 999 a tad faster than the 1098. The test was at Buttonwillow. Same idea though. Many laps and testers switching between the two bikes. One of the BIG caveats is that they admitted lacking experience in setting up the 1098 suspension. |

You and Erik could learn a great deal by him. Rocket, I doubt Erik would cross the street for you much less bother to insult you. Your not worth his time. Frankly If I hadn't been bored at work and looking for cheap entertainment... Crawl back to that pub were your mates think you actually know something, anything about motorcycles. |

This car will be more "successful" than TVR or Saab combined. I'm not so sure it will, and nor are the experts. It's a gamble that might pay off. But your comparing it to Saab and TVR's success, which is an entirely different ball game worlds apart, only serves to show what a silly boy you're behaving like. Rocket |

I can only remember one post with his name on it and you ask for it. After you got you complained he was being unprofessional. I don't know how you know it is Erik insulting you; a lot of folks in East Troy would likely be happy to. You are a royal PITA and have nothing to contribute. |

I expected through argument and debate this thread might have turned out some interesting technical aspects of the design. Instead all that's really happened is the ones I'd least expect to, have resorted to personal insult and character assassination. The funny thing is, I know why. It's because there are plenty here agreeing with me, and that really pisses some of you off. That one bloke who knows little about bike design, could have so many Buell faithful trying to kick his arse for a month because of comments made about the 1125, only serves to show the extent of embarrassment the 1125 looks are causing you. It's really not my fault it's not that attractive. I was interested to establish why. But like the magic that makes an XB handle, or the Blast production so successful, such seems to always elude me. Is this a British thing??? Rocket |

I don't really have time... well i guess i do have the time but I don't have the patience, to go back and read the mountain of posts. Rocket, do you have anything against the XB's or 1125R other than the styling? The XB design has won acclaim from many for it's handling, even those who hate the styling and engine. The 1125R looks to fix at least one of those problems. Do you have a problem with the design of the 1125R engine? What would be your recipe for your perfect sportbike? On the styling issue. I chimed in once that looks are purely subjective. I'll concede that they're only mostly subjective. There are areas of style that are universally accepted, symmetry, balance, and such. But for example when I agreed with another poster here that Christina Ricci is sexy as hell someone piped up with "her forehead is too big" Maybe looks are 50%personal and 50%universal. Personally I think its more like 70/30 |

I expected through argument and debate this thread might have turned out some interesting technical aspects of the design. I had hoped for a technical discussion as well. Instead you keep spinning it back to your opinion of aesthetics. Although I occasionally find your over inflated opinion of yourself amusing, if not down right hilarious, I would much prefer a well thought out technical discussion. |

What I see is a continued move away from mass centralization and reduction in unsprung weight. To me the oil in the swing arm is putting weight in an unsprung area, no matter how small, it stills is weight unsprung. The 1125 corrects this design compromise. But look how high and far forward those radiators are not what I would consider acceptable mass centralization. Now I'm not an engineer never will be, but I'm a prospective Buell buyer. More than anything else Buell has to make money no matter how important it may or may not be. I don't know of a single company that state as one of it's corporate goals was to not make money(not referring to previous monies discussion). One of the major consideration that brought me to Buells was it's design goals and it's execution. Right now the 1125 isn't headed in the right direction for me. One of the great undesigned benefits of the tubers is their resilience when laid down. Reading the XB boards has keep me from buying them simply because of their frames in ability to sustain a fall without bring the insurance company to totaling the bikes because of frame damage. So don't look for my contribution to the continued success of BMC. If Buell can return to it,s "roots" I will be more than willing to support those efforts. Joe |

Where do you think the radiator(s) could have been mounted that would be better, from a mass centralization view? The only better position I see is forward of the engine and down. But this location could present a problem for exhaust routing. Actually, crash-ability is one of the things that is drawing me to get an XB, provided of course that it has frame pucks. I'll add to that some axle sliders for about $50/pr for further protection. I'm surprised that Buell waited until '08 to make frame pucks standard on all models. The 1125R further improves on lay down protection by designing the radiator pods to not only direct air but also act as bumpers in the event of a crash. Hopefully Buell will make good on this design by keeping the price of replacement pod covers low. |
