XB9, that was my attempt at a joke. I knew he didn't mean 'fairy'.
Sounds like a fun ride.

You know, I'd like to try the ferry; but on June 27, there's a 1/2 Mile in Bedford, PA. Then, the next night, there's another 1/2 Mile in Lima, OH. My wife and daughter and I will get to see two Dirt Track races on the way to Homecoming. Maybe we could take the ferry on the way back.

I only drove to homecoming once. I don't remember having that option. Steve Maddden did the navigating and I drove. I don't remember there being a big problem driving through Ill. Does it save alot of time? I will have to speak to my friend Bill about this. He has a house in Lake Geneva. He has invited me to stay there. Anyway due to time constraints, I would probably have to fly anyway.
When I drove, I had to drive straight through. It was harsh. I had to rewire part of my trailer on the road...tore part of my finger off the first full day there and spent the rest of the time driving around in the car anyway.
The time I flew, I traded the rental car to a supremely nice Bueller(I think his name was Mike) and had a glorious ride with Paul(in Oz) and Andy(now deceased). I had great fun and met fantastic people both times.

So it's about $110 each way with a motorcycle? It is a 3.5 hr trip? How much time does it save you?

You can drive a little farther west and head north thru Beloit and beat the ferry time if you're heading to Lake Geneva. Takes about an hour without traffic to get to O'Hare from Milwaukee. If you're coming from the northeast then it's a fun option from what I've been told.

Last year they had rate for Homecoming. I think it was 30 or 40 bucks off.

Maybe they will do that again this year.

If you are coming from the south the ferry will probably not save you time. You can run up 39 to Beloit and avoid Chicago. If you go through Chicago you can hit miles of stop and go traffic at any time. The only times with light traffic are very early mornings. Sunday morning is not too bad pretty much all morning.

From the east it will save time. It is also most relaxing. Napping on the deck or dodging drunks on I-294, your choice.

It's 2.5 hours, you cross the eastern/central time zone halfway across the lake.

First, a big thanks to BadS1 for all the help!

I too have booked a room at the host hotel. My brother and I will be coming from NH. Been lookin' at takin' the ferry across L. Michigan. I still haven't decided though... Maybe travel with a group from N.E.? I takin' a vehicle with bikes in tow... so I'll be bringing tools and room for a dead bike. Unfortunately, I don't have the extra time to ride the bikes out. Bummer.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. I missed seeing/meeting Erik and subsequently, many Buellers at Lars Anderson last year... and this will be my 1st Homecoming, so it's all new to me. I can't wait... especially since we have several feet of snow on the ground right now!

Hey guys I can not believe I missed Eric Buell at Lars Anderson, I use to hang out there as a teenager and go by there often, shit I missed it. OK I am thinking of coming to the Buell homecoming but have never taken a trip like this, can anyone give me advise as to were to stay and prices and anything that might help me out, I would be coming from Boston Mass and know how to tour but finding cheap places to stay is really what I need, and some info on what goes on there, like is it a one day event or are there other things going on that will last a week. To all the New England folks..........

I will start a thread on the NEBO board about this event. I will be going as well and at this point it is looking like there are a few of us that are going to be making this trip from the New England area.

My plan is to leave the MA area and drive to Detroit. I have a friend that lives outside of Detroit, I plan on leaving my vehicle there and riding my bike from Detroit to Homecoming. I figure that it will be cheaper on the ferry if I have just my bike. I believe that it is ~19 hours from MA.

Mike,

The rates at the hotel are not bad but you can find cheaper locally.

If you look at the Hal's HD/Buell address and search for hotels in the area, there will be the usual bunch of discount chain hotels that you can get for less than the $90 per night at the Sheraton Milwaukee Brookfield.

I don't know if the 1125R will fit through a standard door. Fold your mirrors back and measure the max width of the bike to make sure you can park it in the room. Trust me, you will sleep better if you don't have the bike parked outside. My S3 "sleeps with me" when I'm on the road.

Does anyone know of any campsites, with hookups, in the area for campers?

I have been offered the chance to purchase dealer VIP packets for Homecoming. I am not sure of the price but if it's like Daytona in '06, it's a couple hundred $$ for a few goodies. Anyone know any details, or if they are worth the price?

There is a Happy Days (Happy Daize? sp?) camp ground up east of West Bend, I think it's on Wallace Lake and would put you about 30-45 minutes from the hotel in Brookfield. Do you just need power hookup or do you need sewer and water as well?

Mike, thanks for the info, if I bring the camper I would need power, sewer and water since we plan on staying a week or more. Of course if need be I could probably get by on electric only to keep the beer cold but my girlfriend is funny about showers and such.

My girl picked out a camper (toy hauler) last weekend, I am new to the world of campers so I was hoping that other BadWebers would be camping and may have had an area that they always use.

There have been some tenters, RVers, and camper/trailer folks in the past who stay in various areas around the region. I'll try to do a little digging this week/weekend to see what I can drum up. You might google up the WI state campground web page to see what they show. I know there is a state campground down around I-94 and hwy-83 near Delafield, not sure if they're RV compliant or just tent sites though.

I remember that Onahog was looking for a camping spot but do not know what he found out. I am going to check into it this weekend but appreciate any help Mike.

My girlfriend is from Fond du Lac but has not lived in that area for 20 years so she is not aware of anything in the area close to the hotel. Hell, we may just stay at the hotel since there seems to be a lot going on there anyway.

I really thought more BadWebers would be camping and would have already found a Buell Friendly campsite in the past....

Maybe someone will chime in....

Thanks again for your help Mike, Frank

Heres my area as far as camping. Pretty much all of these put you 30 min-40 min from host hotel.

Bads1, thanks for the info. Your right, just about every place I found was about 30 to 45 minutes from the activity.

that kind of stinks as there is a CCS race scheduled for July 4th - 6th at Road America.
Have fun at Blackhawk. Small but fun track!

I thought one of the parameters for choosing the July 2nd-6th date was because of the RoadAmerica race.
