Hello, my name is Tom (Hi Tom) and I am a tech junkie... I am hopeless, beyond repair, and no 12-step process will cure what ails me. But now that I have admitted my shortcomings I decided that I can live with them... and it keeps my wife happier on rides (we all know that if she ain't happy... Ain't Nobody happy on that bike!) So I am setting up my 06 black uly with a few of these things and have questions about how to do this in the best, most functional, easiest(maybe asking too much), and safest way. Autocom 2 sets of Hella lights Heated jackets (drive and passenger) iPhone - Connected to Autocom Audio iPod - Connected to Autocom Audio Radar Detector - Connected to Autocom Audio I have heard that relays are a good way to go for the lights, but have exactly -zero- experience with them. How have ya'll set up the electronics on your rides and where did you get the necessary stuff to make it all happen? Thanks in advance, ulyganfreedom}} | ||

Ulyganfreedom, What he said, check out Maximum's report, linked here. For the small electronics, you can "electrify" your tank bag for all those, and plug into your front accessory port. For the larger-draw items (ie heated gear, lights) you're definitely on the right track to plan relay circuits. Check out Eastern Beaver's website as well. He has a lot of pre-made, professional-quality looms for just these kinds of requirements. They seem expensive, but considering how much time and supplies that doing your own wiring (correctly) can take, it can be a bargain to buy the pre-made circuits. HTH. Bob | ||

Thanks for the Page Florida_Lime (although I normally look for the Big Red M in the sky)... and thanks for posting one of my threads Bob (been awhile since we chatted). I use warm-n-safe for all of my heated apparel needs. Recently, after installing some ProTaper handlebars, I moved the Heat-Troller switch from a box mounted to the crossbar to here...  I also just switched out my PIAA mounting bracket to Gary Eliseo's design (very sturdy) and of course I did have him powder coat it black...  Here is it installed...  Here they are in all their glory...  Here was my write up on the Autocom install: Autocom Write up After the BAS recall was done, I had to relocate the Autocom system to the slot between the battery and the fuse box, but I later moved it back to the tail after having Odie mod the BAS recall bracket for me. This is the perfect spot IMHO.  I do not use an iPod with this system, because I have the Garmin Zumo 550 and the GXM-30 antenna. This gives me MP3, XM radio and BlueTooth interface with the cell phone through the Zumo and Autocom systems. Most of the time I am riding solo, so this Autocom system really is overkill, but it is an awesome system to have when I am two-up. Farkling is part of the fun, so enjoy yourself Tom! I'm thinking of putting one of these in the tail where the rest of you have the relocated BAS: http://shop.genuinedealz.com/Items/gim-atc-6wqc? Right now I have a big fat power wire leading to the front for lights and horns, and two power harnesses for electric clothing attached to the positive battery terminal. Not happy with that, would like to gather them all away from the battery, this looks good. Maximum, I'm sending Gary a check for one of his bars today, noticed you've turned the relieved side to the rear, any reason? Also, how do you guys post such big and clear pics? I always have to diminish mine to under 72 KB in order to post!  | ||

Xbimmer: I asked Gary which side should go forward, and he said that it didn't matter. I figured that recessed areas would be less visible on the back for a cleaner look, but it also might be more aerodynamic that way too. I know, I know...I put those huge PIAA 510's on and worry about aerodynamics!  As far as the pictures...I crop them, then resize them to 800x600, then I use the Photoshop "Save for Web" function to crunch the pictures down to no larger than 67k. Three step process takes a little extra time, but it works very well. I have found free pictures editing tools online that also do the crunch thing, but since I own Photoshop (an older version) it is easier for me to just use it. Here is what the Save for Web function looks like...  And here is what it looks like after compression...  Online you can't tell a difference in quality. | ||

Or if you have web space anywhere on the web you can link to the pictures you already have there. Not having to put them on the Badweb server, I think they can be any size by using the imagelink command. This image is 360kb and is 2184x1456 pixels.  | ||
