I did recognise the Charger and 308, Scott. I also recognise both those small cars in the other pic's, but for the life of me I cannot remember them right now. Bugger. Now about this Coke bottle thing. I think we are digressing too much. I agree the Charger and 308 are good examples, as is the symmetry to the female form. Interesting you guys missed posting the 'Coke bottle' Vette though, lol. However, I made reference to the Coke bottle simply because it is one of the most recognised shapes in the world, and regarded as attractive by all. I was not referring to Coke bottle design in particular in the respect that maybe the Charger or Vette, or even an S2\S3 mimics it. I simply chose it because of its world wide recognition and perhaps undisputed good looks. That a 916 or an MVF4 are regarded by many as having similar distinction in the motorcycling world, was my point. And for that reason the 1125 does not sit up their with the 916's or MV's of this world. As if proof were needed, you only need read the BadWeB to see how many are at ill with the 1125, or at the very least, sat on the fence. So far, the only persons I see on the BadWeB that like the looks of the 1125 are those who have bought one, or are going to. That there is a cross section of subjective opinion amongst Buell fans regarding the 1125 styling, and I imagine the styling will bode even less well outside of the Buell fan club, such tells me the 1125 is not going to wow the biking world like the 916, or even the 1098 or RC8 has or will. In fact, the 1125 is struggling to wow the Buell world where appearance is concerned. I think once we can all agree this to be the case (not agree the 1125 is ugly - just to be clear), maybe then it will be possible for some fools around here to accept these blatherings of mine are more truer than they might like to admit. Then we can get on with the business of discussing why Buell challenged the market with such a strange design, which is something I've been wanting to do for several weeks, without these same fools here that insist on trying to malign me as a troll and a Buell hater. I'm sure the 1125 is a great bike. It's just not as pretty as I believe it could be. For that I think Buell should at the very least explain why they went with such a risque design. Perhaps is now a good time to apologise for what some might see as me being nothing but arrogant. You know, just in case Rocket |

Rocket is this one of the coke bottle bikes'? Been in process since last March. The heads/cylinders get torqued on for the last time TODAY.THis area has been very labor intensive for many months. The rest can be assembled like...blindfolded. I was surprised how, when i sat on it last week, the 1125R felt just like my XB.It really IS a good machine.I won't have one anytime soon because i'm saturated with my current machines' and their maintenance. |

the one thing im wondering is..how many people does it take before a bike design actually gets approved and it goes into production...how many people sat in on that meeting and said..yep thats the one everybody will loooove this its great...you would think at least one person would of stood up and said...um yike...can we rethink this a little...i came up with this thought a few years ago when ford released the yellow mustang that was more of a babypoo brown orange...saw one going down the highway and thought..wow..how many people had to approve that color before it hit the streets..cause it is uuuggllyyy...so how many people sat with erik and said ooohh yaaa thats the one baby...there are a lot of style icons in the world...i dunno if the 1125 will be one of those...maybe theres a reason that average everyday people think every bike thats a twin is a ducati...its a highly recognizable brand..through style and performance. Just as a Coke bottle is pleasing to the eye, any 916 derivative is too. That both stand up in their own environments as icons is proof enough. I doubt my mother would see any appeal in an 1125, though she loves the look of my S1W and 916. Rocket (Message edited by rocketman on January 06, 2008) |

Does Molly's post go some way towards vindicating Rocket? I think so. Rocket |

Thanks for the pics of the Britten. I remember when I first saw that thing. I like the idea of the underseat radiator. I wonder what the logic was for having it there. I have always respected people who succeed in effectively doing something different. It is a shame that a Britten isn't there to be competition for the 1125R. my daughter and wife...like ur mum...loved my XB ..and they dig the honda..i take my daughter to the IMS every year..there arent too many people in the world more impulsive or design oriented than a 15 year old girl...as far as asthetics go..the 1125 got a big ole...eeeewwwww ur not gonna buy that are u ....now before u start with the ooh see he lets a little girl pick his bikes...noo it aint like that..but i do like to hear what she thinks..she rides on the bike too and i trust her her eye..she's been in auto shops since she was a baby and knows the difference between a nice car and heap and can prob polish a car better than most here...so anywhooo...she thought the fisher was weird looking too the best reference point to the RC8 i have...didnt think much of the new honda or kwak either..bad year for bikes...she thought the BKING was a lump of poo to paraquote her hahahaha....i have been trying to convince the family i need a 848 and they universaly think its a sexy bitch.. 1125 style icon prob not...now if i end up buying one..well then the argument will heat up a little ...there were a lot of cars faster and nicer than the charger but not many are as recognizable...oooh what id give for a superbird...now theres a car that can start some arguments i love it some hate it. |

Sorry. I don't need approval from my Mother concerning my motorcycles. Isn't that the point of MC ownership?

I think your missing his point. Basically he's saying that despite his mother possible detestment of motorbikes she believes that those two bikes while being abhorrent detestful machines of ill will and wrongdoing-are still sexy. I seriously doubt Rocket or anyone goes to thier mother before buying something and asks for thier approval. Unless she is actually signing the check over... In regards to the KTM or MV, I can't get into them and don't regard either as the pinnacle of motodesign. The tuber buells on the other hand, I certainly do, but is that because Ducati paved the way? The Japanese bikes seem to have their look cornered, as do the Ducati's-both look as if they invented it even though they may have not. Is this what Buell is attempting to do? |

Funny; I went to the New York IMS with my wife and 16 Year old daughter. My daughter likes the 1125. My wife likes her Lightning Long just fine, but she sees nothing wrong with the appearance of the 1125. She just doesn't care for the ergonomics, as she prefers more comfort than a sport bike delivers. As do I. Of course, I think that anyone who prefers the bucket of scrap steel styling of a KTM over the organic, flowing lines of an 1125R has little to no sense of style anyway. Beauty really is subjective. |

In fact, the 1125 is struggling to wow the Buell world where appearance is concerned. I think once we can all agree this to be the case (not agree the 1125 is ugly - just to be clear), Generally a good, even very good post Rocket (leave out the fool part - everybody has the ability to decide for themselves whether a fool or a troll are among us. I'm sure you've heard "never argue with an idiot, people listening may not be able to tell the difference". That applies here). I agree with what you said above, but not every bike, car or woman can be or needs to be in the top ten in the world in the looks department to do quite well for themselves. Also, and I know you will correct me if I am wrong but, once corrected for inflation aren't all of the bikes you mentioned considerably more expensive? I don't know that it has to take more money to make a bike better looking but it helps! What bike is better looking for the same price. Stay with US prices as that is the group taking part in this discussion. Either way this bike is going to be a top seller for Buell. Do you recognize these? Very attractive little cars. These pictures miss the very subtle curves that had me taking my camera out. Coke bottle, wasp like, woman like or feminine...I don't think too many of us were confused with what you meant. I would like to own a vette. I worked on and off at a local chevy dealer from my teens until my mid 30's as a lot boy, new car set up, service tech and salesman. I was a corvette specialist at one time in the 90's but have never owned one (that is why I posted the Charger instead). I'd like a 78 as it is the year of my HS graduation and it is affordable. Put a nice crate motor in it and you have a nice ride. |

Cj, that's about bang on right, lol. Is this what Buell is attempting to do? And that is probably the best question asked since the shitfest started. I must admit, that had not crossed my mind. Perhaps because I was wrapped up in my own opinions. Very interesting perspective. Definitely a plus point for the home run sales. I mean, just this past few days we've seen several post that they like the looks now they've seen it (recently). I was the other way. I thought the 1125 looked fighter plane like in some promo pic's we saw. I don't think I see it that way now. Still, I'm keen to see one on the road or parked at the bike meet, in a more natural surrounding. Rocket |

And to get back on topic. I will take actual owner bike riding reviews over some English pommy that has his feelings hurt because Erik Buell didn't consult him on the styling. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/37/ 43483.html?1199594471 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/328095.html?1199635773} |

F1 cars are stunning in their engineering, execution and materials, but haven't been pretty for many, many years. Come to think of it, beyond sports cars there aren't any good looking race cars anymore are there?.... |

Anyone recognise this popular American race series race car?
I very nearly managed to buy one some years ago, but it fell through last minute, and ended up in Mexico with the rest of the series cars. Rocket |

I had a very limited amount of time at the museum and took pictures but did not take notes. In talking to the owners/builders they were home built with a variety of chassis, engines, etc. To my eye these cars were English hot rods. It was an eye opener because until then I thought only Americans and folks who appreciate American car culture built honest to God hot rods. They ran these cars up the old hill climb and through an autocross type course on the old track. Seeing and hearing them in action was a hoot! Folks kept telling me to go inside and see the "real cars" but honestly I was having more fun watching them beat on and sometimes break their creations! If I had the money I would so come back for something like Goodwood, but these cars had a charm in their simplicity and affordable cost of ownership (like tube frame Buells). |

FSV? We built the FIRST formula car for Geoff Brabham in our shop (that's me in the background in red T-Shirt and Oshkosh overalls) Designer was David Bruns (in cockpit) - who started Swift Engineering and had already been very successful in designing/building the ADF Formula Ford (Pic from 1979) Far left is Roman Slobodinskyj - who designed Gurney's Eagle series of cars. In the early 1970's more than HALF of the cars starting Indy were HIS designs. (those plaid pants should put the photo in time-perspective) (Message edited by slaughter on January 06, 2008) |

It's a Barber Saab I was negotiating with Skip Barber to buy. Sadly it was the last of I think 19 if memory serves. The others were all sold into Mexico, except one other that was sold to the Saab Museum in Sweden. The remaining one I was negotiating on had been kept back by Barber and modified to carry the Dodge engine they went with after the Saab 900 T16 engine / transmission assembly. I decided not to buy it because, as Skip told me, it would have been very difficult to convert it back to Saab engine / transmission because of chassis and suspension mod's done to get the Dodge unit in. The bodywork had been modified too. Would have been a lot of racing car for the money though. Rocket |
