I just got my cable in the mail today. Joel did a first class job putting it together. Thanks again Joel! I haven't installed the software yet, but I went out to the bike to find where I plug the connector into. I found the ECM right on top under the seat, but I don't see a where the connector is. Can anyone tell me where to look? | ||

It's just below the seat on the left hand side. It's a gray deutsch connector with a black rubber plug in it. You can get to it with the seat on. You might want to pull the seat and remove the headlight fuse while using the ecmspy. | ||

Found it! Thank you! Tonight I plan to load the program and then make a copy of the stock fuel maps etc. I want to study what I have right now for a bit before I start changing things much. | ||

Why would you remove the headlight fuse? | ||

You need the ignition switch on for the ECM to have power. if you are connected for a while you could run the battery down. | ||

You want as close to 12v for the proper functions of ecm. I always pull the fuse! | ||

I have also heard it recommended to hook up a battery tender to the bike in addition to removing the headlamp fuse during a reflash. | ||

Thanks for the compliments Gary. As far as pulling the light fuse, I always hooked up to battery tender and didn't mess with the headlight fuse. It was never on long enough to be that much of a problem that the tender wouldn't take care of quickly. | ||

An interesting note... I pulled the fuse while I was resetting the TPS yesterday... the low beam still came on. I check the high beam and it did not work...... I have done the pin swap on the headlight connector so the low beam is always on... apparently that is on another fuse... or I'm just missing something? | ||

Yup...that's the deal. I did the dual headlight mod by soldiering a jumper wire in the hi/low switch, but I did notice that the parking light was still on after pulling the headlight fuse. | ||

Try pulling fuse #5. It is the accessory fuse but it turned off my low beam as I did the conversion too. You can leave all other fuses in as long as you have the low beam on. | ||

You need the FTDI Virtual COM Port drivers http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm Oh, and do not try to install these until you have the cable in hand... (Message edited by gamdh on January 01, 2008) | ||

Joel, I got the cable this week -- first-rate job, thanks for the fast assembly and shipping. I installed ECMspy and the serial driver, and had it running and connected to the bike in no time. Wow, what a great asset, and what a great example of an open source hardware and software collaboration. Thanks again, Joel, for providing the cable, for shipping to my APO address, and thanks also to the ECMspy team for putting together this tremendous piece of software. Very timely, as well, as I think I had my first BAS cutout on the commute home from work today. :-) Bob | ||

how do i install the driver? my computer wont recognize the bike when the cable is connected... having a lot of trouble. I tried downloading the driver and extracting it, but my computer and another computer is not recognizing the driver. any tips? |
