Hey guys, newby here, and I've got a couple of issues. 1st is, I'm still riding my Road King, and am having a hard time convincing the boss (my wife) that this is a positive change. 2nd, I'm looking Very hard at a demo 07 w/5k miles. My dealer wants 12,500 OTD (including hard bag trio and low seat) Seems pretty steep to me, even for So Cal. Appreciate any input or suggestions. Thanks |

That deal sucks. Take the boss for a ride, and the deal will be sealed. I would find another deal, though. Look out of state if necessary. If you get used, you don't have to have CA spec. |

The Uly pillion seat has got to be way more comfortable than a Road Kings. LIke Fat says, take her for a test ride and she'll be convinced. Can't help on the deal thing though, wrong side of the pond! |

I'm trying to get a demo to take home so I can get her on it. I agree with you on that point for sure. That's the 1st round of numbers, I was thinking i would get a much better price considering the 5/k miles, wouldn't you agree? |

$12,500 is where my local dealer started on an 08 w/0 miles, bags and the first service thrown in...... |

Ya, you can find a better deal if you look around and are willing to drive a little. I just got OTD in Ga. for an '08, no options for $10,800+ tax. |

What's the best deal you guys have seen for the hard bag trio? |

I would shop nationally and negotiate from there. If your local dealer isn't willing to deal, look at neighboring states. ChadHargis got his from Florida (he's in TN). Others have bought from Appleton in Wisconsin and flown in and ridden or trailered home. I got mine without bags for $10,500. I wouldn't necessarily get hung up on the bag deal. I think it's clouding the deal. Negotiate for the bike first, then negotiate for the "extras". |

Thanksgiving eve I brought home an '07 for $10,750 OTD, which included our 6.5% county sales tax. I think I paid $9,993 before add-ons. John |

Must have in excess of 7500 miles to be considered used; don't ask me how I know... Agreed. I've heard of folks taking the "long route" to getting their bike licensed. If the bike already has 5,000 miles, 2,500 isn't that far away. Finding one with similar miles in say Texas would afford one the distance to get it to legal status. |

I agree on the price being too high. FYI I traded my vrod in on my 06 uly. The wife rarely rode with me but that all changed with the uly. FYI I grew up in bonita and my dad lived near you in temecula before he passed away. Have a monster taco for me at jack in the box. |

I'm all for supporting my local dealer, but I think it's a give and take thing. I bought my bike out of state because the closest dealer to me didn't have one in stock and couldn't tell me when they'd get one and the other dealer wanted to charge me full MSRP for the bike. In my opinion, anything that drops in value as much as a motor vehicle, MSRP is just that...the "Manufacturers SUGGESTED Retail Price". It's a ballpark figure that let's me know near what I can expect to pay. I'm waiting patiently to see what develops with the 1125 engine. I suspect we'll see it in other Buells in the future, and I'm keep my fingers crossed it ends up in the Ulysses. For now, I'm gonna hang on to my '06. It's running strong and I love it. |

I'm all for supporting my local dealer, but I think it's a give and take thing. Absolutely, supporting the dealer doesn't mean taking it in the shorts. Bumpus, HD normally doesn't negotiate much on bikes. I plan to try to buy my next Buell from them. I have supported their dealership here, locally, and in the service department. I expect less than MSRP on my purchase. If not, I'll buy elsewhere and service there. They will understand why I didn't buy from them. I'll give them first shot. |

On the Road King vs. Uly thing, I have both in my garage. I think my wife prefers the Road King, mainly because when we ride it, we tend to have the 1/2 helmets on with leather jackets. On the Uly, it normally full faced helmets with Aerostich suits. Hers suit doesn't fit quit right etc. She has done a 400 mile day on the Uly, but I think still prefers the Road King for long rides. |

I have an Electraglide and a Uly and I can say that my wife likes riding on the Electraglide much more. I think it is more that it is easier to get on and off of, plus with the trunk the has a little more back rest. She said the Uly seat is very comfortable. |

Got my 07' in Alberta, Canada for $16K OTD. Hard bag trio, taller windscreen, tank bag & federal tax of 6% included. You guys in the USA have it made. Recently the CDN$ reached par with your green back but prices are still high. The industry says it cost more to do business in Canada's smaller market thus the higher prices - but $3.5K more is steep to say the least. |

Doesn't taking your wife along kinda defeat the whole purpose? I got my bike to get away from the wife... . |

Johnboy777 you are the Man. Actually, my wife seldom rides with me and that was one of the reasons I went ahead and went with the Buell. I have been looking at it since it came out and when my FLHT hit 100K miles and I was ready to buy another bike I initally thought I would get a Roadglide. I am glad that I didnt. She seldom rides with me ( maybe once or twice a year ) and we never take trips on the bike together. The Buell is an awesome bike and I have never regretted buying it for one minute. |

Hey Treysmagna, Well, since we are all baring our souls here, I probably need to confess that when I brought the bike home, the wife mentioned that she might like to ride on the back. Upon hearing that, I immediately went out to the garage, put the tail all the way back and removed the rider foot pegs. When she came out to sit on the back, she felt rather awkward and uncomfortable with nowhere to put her feet. “Where do I put my feet?” she said, as I simulated riding the bike by swaying it back and forth. “Just dangle them out, I guess, and please Beth, make sure to keep them away from the rear wheel and belt", was my reply. Needless to say, she never did ask me again. . |

My dealer is selling their 06 and 07 Ulys for $8600. Thats w/o bags, but still that's a huge difference. What does your dealer want for an 08? There are currently no Ulys on ebay, but I've seen them there before. That's a pretty good way to judge what the bikes are going for. BTW, when Madduck bought his Uly in Appleton, WI, Dave was able to get him a California model. |

Love it Johnboy. DIdnt think of that. I had to take her on a 90 mile ride on it and every time she had to get off she damn near fell on her butt. That was enough. |

Ft_b, That's not nice. You should try to end the year being a little kinder and nicer. You could hurt someone's feelings. Can you make it over this way Monday for a New Years Eve afternoon ride? (didn't know if you saw squids thread) |
