SORRY DIDN"T MEAN TO COME OFF LIKE AN A$$. I'M STUCK AT WORK AND ITS TOO COLD TO RIDE MY BIKE. I'M NOT SURE WHERE THE OIL FILTER IS. I ONLY HAVE A COUPLE HUNDRED MILES ON MY BIKE SO FAR AND HAVN'T NEEDED TO LOOK FOR THE FILTER YET. I WOULD GUESS ITS EASY TO FIND THOUGH JUST LOOK UNDER THE BIKE TILL YOU FIND IT. NOT VARY MANY HIDING SPOTS ON A NAKED BIKE CHEERS |

I asked Al the filter question, and here are his answers: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/171 43/324982.html?1198475243 I'm going the KN alternative for now because my local dealer has ordered filters but they have not arrived yet. |

It's not actually a filter in the sense we're used to. It's not a spin off can. It's a replaceable filter element. |

This and other threads in BWB have brought out that many dealerships are initially getting ready on the sales floor for the 1125r as salesmen learn up on the new bike. But service writers and techs have not yet been able to attend the first technical training and literature is scarce from the factory. Through the feedback heard here, inquiries from customers, and a natural desire to learn about the bike early I encouraged service folks at High Country H-D/Buell to prepare for that first 1125r service even though their first 1125r on the sales floor. For instance, there is a new model technical bulletin that parts and service have used to order all the typical or required parts for that first service when the bike rolls in. Coolant, oil filter element, spark plugs, fork oil, battery, tires, parts & service manuals - parts unique to the 1125r are on order in anticipation of the need. I know there are many here who think this stuff should be automatic from East Troy, and it will be, but in this instance the dealerships are left wanting for the time being. So I for one want to thank the BWB community for keeping attention on what matters, good sales and good service after the sale. The dealerships, in some cases, may be waiting on parts, training, and even bikes, but forums and posters like those here help to keep those of us who listen on our A-game. And the dealerships that work hard at staying ahead keep the owners out riding. Isn't that what it is all about, or should be? So while Zac4Mac is out getting his 1125r up to 500 miles today, they are preparing for doing the first 620mile break-in service should he need us to do it for him. And if he only needs the parts, I think our parts dept. will have them in inventory when he comes calling, any day of the 7-day week. ~jammer |

>>>>but in this instance the dealerships are left wanting for the time being. If you have any such problem, drop me a note. I have been in constant communication with the folks preparing and disseminating this stuff to make sure the right information is in the right place at the right time. Buell has done an extraordinary job. . . . one of the pitfalls has been the placement on HDnet. Bottom line is the stuff is there but may be a bid difficult to find. If your dealer has any problem . . the key word is ASK. |

Don't beat yourself up Court. In my search for a filter yesterday I stopped at a place that sells the CanAm Spyder (Rotax V-Twin in it) and they had not received any service items for it. The Spyder has been released for much longer than the 1125R. But, don't get me wrong. It Sherwood B. Nice if the Buell dealers had the maintenance items in stock right now. |

Hey guys is there a way to wash out the stock filter if I can not get one. I am calling my dealer tomarow to order 4 filters for break in and will want a reusable filter in the future but am worried I will not have the filter for brake in, I like to change the filters and oil at 50, 100, 200, 300, then bring in the bike for service, Mike |

You can get a filter from a Bombardier dealer, or an Aprilia dealer, or online from AF1 racing. http://www.af1racing.com/ I assume it's the same filter as used in the Aprilia Rotax 998. Isn't that a kick in the head when Aprilia is in a better parts situation than BMC? |

oh poo! I just washed out my filter today, and I knew I should have photographed it... I do remember that it had rotax on it, but the # I have no idea. The guys at Glendale tried out the K&N KN-152 filter without luck, it was too short... So that leads me to believe that the Aprilia filter is as well. But at the same time I am hoping they are wrong. If someone gets an oil filter or just decides to wash theirs, can you make note of the part number... Although I do remember being surprised by how long the filter was. Thanks |

I would take out your filter and measure it, then call up AF1 racing. Aprilia/Rotax just came out with a new longer filter that requires a new/deeper filter cap and bolt set for the 998 motor. Measure your filter length, OD and ID of the inlet hole - my WAG is one of the two Aprilia V60 filters will be the right one. |

Did you mention to salespeople to say hi to people when they come in? lol. I was there for 5 minutes the other day and no one offered any assistance. Not a big deal to me but it is to some. Maybe I look like someone that cant afford a bike? I have bought 3 brand new bikes just in the last 12 months. Brad, WTF, where did this come from? You bought three bikes from us and no one recognized you? I wish you had asked for me. Maybe the 3 sales people we had were busy helping others there before you and your 3-bike buyer patch was obstructed from view. 5 minutes wait too long? Let me see, tongue in cheek, possible reasons or ways how to resolve this: 1) You shoulda went through the drive-thru, we are much faster there. 2) Our door greeter was at Walmart for the Christmas rush 3) You were recognized as a BWB member and folks knew there was nothing they could possibly tell you that you hadn't already read here in. 4)90% of shoppers, when first approached, tell you they "need nothing", "just looking", "they'll ask for your help when they need it". Given this, we put on the bikes hang-tags with all added features, price and known fees so there are no hidden costs tacked on in the sales offices. 5) You might have noticed the absence of "Do Not Sit" and "Ask Salesmen for Price" signs. Most customers prefer our laid-back approach this time of year over that of commission-based stores where salesmen hover over prospective buyers and ignore shoppers with only questions that day. 6)Was it a Sunday? Colorado law prohibits discussing motor vehicle sales on Sunday so only parts & retail folks are working and they are not able to talk much, even if knowledgeable, by law. 7) Christmas season has found us short three sales - owners are out, and one sales guy off getting married. 8) Monday, Christmas Eve, I was out delivering no less than three surprise gifts to lucky partners/spouses who knew not that Santa's big elf wearing black was bringing them a new Harley. This left only two sales people in the store for more than 4 hours. 9) I may have been in service or parts helping share information on the new model and making sure break-in procedures and parts are in place on this new model. 10) We may have been busy trying to come up with a way to sell more bikes with less sales people as pressure rise to cut prices below MSRP. Or maybe that chip on your shoulder confused the sales guys. LOL Seriously Brad, I have helped buyers finance bikes when other dealerships turn them away and I have sold bikes, even multiple bikes, to buyers who drove up in rusty cars leaking oil. None of that matters to me or the team. If you sensed an attitude, I hope it was an err on your part. Our laid-back low pressure approach is generally well received and preferred by our buyers, at least according to the feedback we get. Also, please consider this, at this time of year dealerships get a lot of regular customers who have finished all there Christmas shopping and come to hang out since they have all kinds of time off from their work. Each has spent thousands of dollars there, and feels a personal connection with their sales person. Many desire time to reflect on the riding season and some on possible purchases in the coming year. A good number wish to discuss mods for their rides, or things they read on the WEB that may be inaccurate. They are in slow mode, relaxed, and in no hurry but their expectation is time with the sales folks. It would be extremely rude to walk away, mid-conversation, to greet a new customer who just walked in 5 minutes ago who may only be looking at bikes on his way back to parts. A little soak time is observed at our dealership, and when a customer spends a few moments walking about the the bikes, or parks by one particular style or bike, then we excuse ourselves and go over to introduce ourselves and ask if assistance is needed. What else can a team of 3 or 4 sales do when 6 or 8 people are on the sales floor? If you can think of a better way for a both the existing customers and new, potential customers to be treated, I am open to suggestions. In the meantime, next time walk in and ask for me. ~jammer |

That's a good thing . . . back in the "pre-badweb" days . . . problems and solutions used to wander about aimlessly sometimes never finding one another. Now . . even though you sometimes have to take the required side dish of opinion . . . problems and solutions meet quickly. |

Brad & Court, I hope my tongue & cheek reply earlier did not come across with too much angst. I read BWB for a reason, and engage folks knowing full well lots of arrows will be flung. Pioneers and early settlers had as many bullets in their backs as they had arrows in their chests. But I know High Country to be seriously dedicated to Buell. That does not mean it is all easy. The staff is trained & well versed in big twin sales to traditional buyers as is any dealership. Guys wearing Joe Rocket jackets and Sidi boots are a curious, too often misunderstoof lot to many. But many staff here, myself included, own Buells and other brands as well. This year we became the only dealership left selling Buells from Denver north to Casper, Wyoming. But we are not taking that as a clue to relax. We are continually changing our Buell approach. We hope to soon stock some hop-up and after-market parts from the likes of TourA-Tech and American Sport Bike, displaying them on the floor too. Brad, Did you notice that we have a salesman's desk right smack in the midst of our Buell bike inventory? And that we have accessorized some models? Did you see the 1125r employee introduction training DVD playing in the customer lounge? I hope you were able to watch it. There in you see some great color CAD animations teaching the valve train, oil system, coiling system, gear train, suspension, CFD (fluid flow) analysis and other design engineering nuances behind the innovation of the bike. Stats, specs and service tips are given as well. Weather being as it may, (record breaking snow fall in Denver shattering one back to mid-1800's with only our 14th Christmas Day snow fall) I hope you come back and test ride our 1125r also. Where as some dealers are just getting their 1125r, we ordered ours as soon as we could, and five others, and received it with the intent of making a demo bike of one. Having had no less than 5 staff sent to Miller Motorsport for 1125r track day sales training, we are excited about this bike and embrace the changes we will need to make to better suit the customers that come calling to consider buying one. ~jammer |

http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/prodView.as p?idproduct=4918 This is the longer Aprilia filter that 'MAY" be the same as on the 1125r. Seems there was an update on the Aprilia to use this filter, but you have to change the original Aprilia cover to use it. The new Aprilia cover looks identical to the 1125r. I don't think any aftermarket sources have the newer style (longer) filter available, but you may find this at an Aprilia dealer, or order through the link. Aprilia Part Number New longer filter (may fit):0956745 Old shorter filter (won't fit, too short)0256187 (HF152) My best guess! (Message edited by xb9 on December 26, 2007) |
