To change the exhaust muffler do you need to take the belt idler pulley off to do so? Thanks |

No. I use 1/4 drive socket set with a swivel. |

No.. I have never removed the idler pulley for anything...including belt, tire, handlebar, seat or muffler replacement. The "Big Blue" SM might say something different but what does it know? |

No, I just changed my first one a few weeks back. Surprisingly it only took aprox an hour and half with a buddy of mine. We didn't really work to fast with it, would say about an hour if we did. I'd say the hardest part was putting the chin spoiler back on. Maybe that was just the anticipation of starting it back up the the D&D on it. |

Your best resource is going to be the drummer web site. They have a break down of what's needed in removing the old muffler. FYI, keep the servo motor and cable in place in case you decide to go back to the original. That looks like it'd be a pain to replace. |

Every time I have to do the job, I look up there and think "with enough work, I could probably pull those clamps without removing the idler pulley. But the idler pulley is just two bolts, so I always just pull it anyway. That also lets me give the pulley a good cleaning. I've done it (remove and install) without loosening the rear wheel as well, though you have to be very careful to avoid belt damage. |

""with enough work, I could probably pull those clamps without removing the idler pulley." When I did mine I used the 1/4" drive swivel with no real problem but when I put it back together I reversed the direction of the clamps and now even the 1/4" drive swivel isn't necessary. |
