I found something interesting in the "Enthusiast ShopTalk" from the Harley dealer.. "Harley-Davidson Motor Company now offers Michelin tires as replacement tires for certain models." Even the Mothership is seeing the light. | ||

actually they did it abit ago when dunlop was having all the problems getting tires out. harley couldnt get tires so obviously they will go some place else. | ||

Disappointing. The reason they give was "To offer you more choices" - They lauded Michelin as an innovative leader in the tire industry. But, if what you say is true, the only reason was that they couldn't get Dunlops. Too bad. | ||

we were out of some tire sizes for a long time till they finally started sending michelins to us. we had people that waited for months because they wanted the dunlop and NO ONE had any or could get any. | ||

I really don't get the DUNLOP bashing. When BIKE magazine voted the XB12R as the "worlds best handling motorcycle" it had the stock Dunlops on it. Great grip equals less mileage. I find it quite interesting that some here expound the virtues of cheap tires, Tomahawks, Conti "heart attacks" ect. so they can go a few extra miles on their tires. How many "I wadded my bike" threads are started by folks riding on economy tires? | ||

The original Dunlops on my XB9S were the worst tires I have ever ridden on in my now 47 years of biking. I put 1000 miles on them then threw them away. I replaced them with Metzlers which transformed an evil handling motorcycle into one of the best I have ridden. I then put the Pirelli Scorpion Sync tire on the bike and I like them even more. With the original Dunlops, if you even touched the brakes in a turn the bike stood up.--The first time this happened to me was in a decreasing radius turn when I encountered traffic backed up at a red light.--That tightened things up!!! Further they didn't grip very well, wet or dry, in comparison to the other tires. That is probably the reason Buell quit putting them on their motorcycle. | ||

Al, I would have to agree with Jack on this one... Mileage was not the issue with them, but their profile was terribly wrong (I am referring to the 207, I have heard that the 208 were a little better). On the XB the Diablo profile is best for long fast sweepers, and the Pilot Power profile is best for technical stuff. On the other hand I do agree with you about quality tires, they are the only things that keep up on the road. So I prefer those two quarter sized patches to be as good as they can be... | ||

Dunlop makes fine tires... for cruisers. My old Honda CB900C lived it's entire life wearing Dunlop shoes. The ones that came with my Buell sucked big donkey eggs. I've long been a fan of the Metzeler Z6 for a combination of performance and high mileage, but recently I've become a big fan of the M3. The bike has never felt so planted in the turns.
