I know it distracts from all the fun reasons we ride, but, I'd kinda like to know how often I'll be dumping my cash in the gas tank before I buy one. |

Look in "Riding impressions", Al Lighton says he was averaging 27 mpg. Still around 140-150 miles per tank. More performance, more fuel. Remember, DUAL 61 mm throttle bodies. Might need my XB9R back for a commuter bike. Z |

My first 100 mi. burnt 4 gallons... ( I haven't been riding for mileage, but for break-in) Lots of part throttle acceleration in the 3500 to 6000 rpm range, and decel back again. Not the best kind of riding for economy... |

Is there any way to get better mileage than that? My car gets better gas mileage than that. I don't want to be the sportbike guy in the group of cruisers who has to stop all the time to fill up. (Message edited by kravfighter on December 17, 2007) |

Short shift it, and go easy on the throttle and brakes. Put a couple of extra psi in the tires too (to reduce rolling friction). That'll do it. |

When you build a bike to perform, gas mileage tends to go out the window. Buell predicted 32-38 mpg which is right where the rest of the superbikes sit. This is why I would be more than happy with the thunderstorm motor in the 1125r frame for a sport tourer |

I'm actually surprised. My 850 lbs K1200LT with its sixteen valve, DOHC inline four usually averages in the high 40's and one year with a good tailwind I averaged over 50 mpg at 70mph from New York to Daytona Beach. I'd think a bike with the same displacement but half the weight (and cylinders) would do equally well... especially since the engine doesn't have to work as hard. |

I was wondering how the MPG would turn-out. When I first heard about DUAL 61 mm throttle bodies, I wasn't counting on 45MPG! I know the 1125R has a bit more power than my old SV1000S, but that dang thing got 45 mpg real easily in town. I am glad I have my CityX, (This is my 2nd) I am interested to see what develops in a year or two with a bit smaller rotax in a CityX platform. -roadrash1 |

Short rides kill mileage because the engine runs rich while the coolant is coming up to temperature. If you were to ride out a full tank without stopping, I'd bet your mileage would climb well above 40 mpg, even at a steady 70-80 mph. |

The tradeoff for more power - and an engine that isn't "working as hard" - is that it's so much fun to explore the "twist here for grins" envelope! The only engine style that seems to hold to that standard (less strain equals better mileage) is a diesel. Our 8800lb Dodge with Cummins puts down 610 lb-ft stock (with over 300hp) and nets 22mpg in town with my lead-lined size 13 on the go pedal. I do know my tuber (I know....apples / oranges) has a massive change from daily riding to all-highway trips. 42 in town is normal; I got nearly 65 on a trip to PA, all highway. I suspect we'll see similar effects on the 1125r's, especially once they're broken in and have some miles on 'em. |

That's calculated with the odometer, not the bikes computer. Average on the dash has been 27mpg. The instant calc on the dash varies from 11 to 60, but for regular steady state cruising usually shows 40-45 mpg. |

I expected the mileage to go down with more power, but I also expected it would still get better mileage than my car. The tech at the dealership said it should go up once its broke in. |

For comparison, my '07 Aprilia Tuono (1000 cc v-twin Rotax) gets low 30's pretty consistently. I'd be surprised to see someone get much better than 40 mpg under 'normal" driving conditions. |

First real fill-up... 152.9 miles and 4.776 gallons to fill so that makes it 32.0mpg The bikes computer says the average is 31mpg so it pretty darn close I imagine that the fuel economy will go up after break in, the instant goes from 24-72mpg. |

Went riding today, 185 miles. Averaging 32 but that's on-off throttle. When I hold a steady speed it's consistent at 40mpg "instant mpg"

I've got friends in Laramie. I don't blame you for sticking to the interstates, I did too. I just didn't recognize it in your picture. You live in a great place to ride a bike like that. I hope it does well for you. |

I'm waiting for my heated grips to arrive. Not near so cold here, though, it was high 40s, low 50s where I was riding today, didn't need them. The heated vest delays the need for the grips a bit, I think. Be nice in the rain, though. I ride in the 20s occasionally, once or twice a year, but that snow stuff will sure make you tough... |

Fuel light came on at 110 miles. Filled up there and put 5.1 gallons in it. 22 MPG But I am NOT riding for MPG. |
