I just bought an 05 XB12Scg and decided to check out the airfilter. I unbolted the plastic and found a 4-wire connector not connected to anything and then some cable that I have no idea what it's connected to. The best thing I can think of is that these are for tuning/diagnostics? Is this correct? Can someone explain what they are for and how they work? Thanks! |

Sounds like the exhaust servo. Is the stock exhaust still on the bike or an aftermarket can? |

I just read that in another forum. The exhaust is the stainless Buell race exhaust. I suspect it had the interactive exhaust prior. What's funny though is that there are no mounting nuts for the servo in the airbox cover like I see in others' pictures. Since I no longer have the stock exhaust and won't go back, are these components removable? |

What's funny though is that there are no mounting nuts for the servo in the airbox cover like I see in others' pictures. Early (05) XB12's had the servo motor held in place with a lump of foam rather than being bolted into place, so your airbox seems stock. I assume that you also have the race kit ECU or you would get a warning light on the dash with the servo removed. If I were you I would remove the cable (it should just pull through with a little elbow grease) but leave the electrics in place. You can trace the electrics further back to another plug, but it isn't really worth doing and just makes it difficult to replace in future if required. While you are there, take a 2" holesaw and cut some holes in your inner airbox cover. This will increase the airflow substantially (and makes a nice noise ). Just make sure you leave the centre of the airbox alone and don't drill that. I'm sure there are instructions in the Knowledge Vault for this somewhere. |

Awesome! I plan on doing the airbox mod soon, I think I'm going to take a dremel to it and make some nice factory looking holes. I will also try to remove the cable, but I'll leave the wires. I suspect if I ever sell this thing I would put the stock exhaust back on beforehand. Thanks! |
