I want a sport touring buell. I know someone else said it....I agree. I want performance, I want saddlebags for a daily rider..I want a buell I can ride all day long...kick my legs out when they get cramped....how about a crossbreed harley/buell. Don't make me have to chop one. I work on em.....the xbs....are top notch.....the uly...tooooo tall ..i can barely reach the ground at a stop light. I would love to have an 1125r ..but if it rides like a sport bike ..i wont get one. I cant carry my ten year old and his bookbag home on a buell for an hours ride....i can do it on a sporty..but the motor aint the same.....well If Erik and His boys dont do something in the next few years ....I am chopping one. | ||

Lower a Uly. Many have done it, and it is pretty nice if the stock height is an issue. I'm contemplating going that route when I add one to the collection. | ||

You could add a set of Heli bars to the 1125R to get the riding position more upright. The foot pegs are a bit lower on this bike as well. Adding saddlebags shouldn't be too much of an issue, ask Crusty he may know of the company that makes the brackets to fit Uly bags on other models. | ||

I find my Uly does not have the wind/weather protection I like in a sport tourer. Also the heat issue simply makes the ride too hot in SW Florida summers, yes... even at speed with proper riding gear. The FJR does a far better job it is a bit heavy but + on power, + on weather protection, + on instrumentation. No heat issues from '06 on. Now, an 1125T just might be the best of both worlds. | ||

Main.... I agree. A lot of people are trying to steer towards modifying a Uly, but they are missing the point of this topic. We don't want a Uly with the current motor... we want a rotax. I have contemplated putting some Heli bars on an 1125R, but when I'm done with modifying, I'll be in the same price of an FJR or a Concourse. I can't see spending that money on a modification I'm not sure I'll stick with...... Anyone else have plans to modify the current bars as a winter project? | ||

ok ...here's and Idea...i know harley does a vast accessory catalog...and since this is a section that ...was supposed to be getting back to the boys at buell...maybe they will listen and develop some.."factory accessories" for the "not so few" of us that want a sport tourer. | ||

The Uly isn't too tall....you're too short. LOL!  At 6'5", the Uly is one of the very few bikes that I can fit on comfortably. I would guess that I'm as comfortable on a Uly as a "normal" height person would be on an 1125R. I can stand flat footed and by butt is at least an inch above the seat...just about right. I don't need a big fairing, in fact, PLEASE don't put one on from the factory. Anyone who wants one can get a big windshield or something. I ride a motorcycle because I LIKE the wind. If you're going less than 90mph, then the windblast isn't that much of an issue. Just lower the bars a bit and lean into it. I really love the 1125R, but I'm praying that Buell builds an 1125 Ulysses. Oh PLEASE!! Keep it light, nimble, and don't neuter the engine by "tuning for torque". There are PLENTY of standard and sport bikes that can have bags thrown on them. But us big ole people have three choices for a comfortable sport touring bike....Tiger, Multistrada, and Ulysses. I don't consider the wanna-be dual sports like the V-Strom and the GS as sporty enough due to their lack of tire choice for the 19" front wheel. | ||

One of those "he said, she said" deals, but according to a thread on ADVRider, "workerant" was told at a dealership ride at Barber for the 1125R, that: The Buell people running the show told us that they're working on a big trailie (like the Ulysses) based on the 1125, but have no plans for a dedicated sport-tourer. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29 1009 Grain of salt and all that.  | ||

F B - not only one model, one year. The 1125R will be discontinued in 2009, making the ones sold, rare and highly sought after collector bikes that will never be ridden. Sorry I couldn't stop. If they'll ever get mine here, I'll go ride it and leave y'all alone for a day or two. Z | ||

In the past, Buell has always stated that future projects are not open for discussion. This statement from someone in the company "confirms" that 'they are working on a 1125 Uly'. That's all.  | ||

wait ...who said only one year for the 1125r... i never heard that ..and why would they do that and have training classes in place? If you have noticed harley often has a special model and then discontinues it only to bring it back again....can you say Fxr. | ||

This "discontinued after 2008" business defies logic and good business sense. Besides, others have already said that 2009 will be unchanged from 2008. | ||

Hope y'all realize I was being sarcastic last night. The 1125 is not getting cancelled, at least not to my knowledge. Last thing I want is to start a stupid rumor like that. I want my 1125R, even tho there's 6 inches of fresh snow in my yard, it's already melting off the streets. | ||

If someone from the factory is reading this....please contact me regarding the design and testing of the Rotax powered Ulysses. I'll be happy to come up and give input, do test rides, and let you know when you have it "just right" (and sign a confidentiality agreement of course). For my fee, I only ask for dibs on the first one that rolls off the line. I've pushed my Ulysses to the limit, and I love it, but give me a motor. 1125 BABY!! Yeah! | ||

Being 6' 4" I told the 1125r engineers and marketers that they should not have married the Firebolt tail section exactly. The Duc 1098 style tail section would be more usable to tall guys. The ergos of the 1125r work fair for me, except the seating area. I am pressed against the tail and, due to the Firebolt copy, that means 1" of right angle plastic on my tail bone. Had they lowered the surface flush with that under the seat pan, and let the removable portion come down to it, 1 inch deeper, tall guys like me could get a seat guy to fab up a long seat and we'd be motoring down the road in more comfort and average height to short guys would not miss a beat. I know the demographics for most sport bikes is 5' 8" or 10", but a portion of that is due to bikes not fitting six-footers well. Ulysses - a sport bike for us tall guys. I love mine. Working full time, I still managed 7,000 miles from May thru November. ~jammer | ||

Jammer...you hit the nail on the head. I think it's a lot easier for a shorter person to lower a bike, dish a seat, get thick soled boots, etc...that it is for guys like you and I to cut our legs in half and remove a couple of inches. I still get a laugh out of "normal" people who talk about how uncomfortable a 1098 or a Gixxer is when that's how "men of stature" feel on most adventure touring bikes and we think they are comfortable. LOL! |
