Mine came in today, just got it back to the shop.
I've driven it about 100 yards so far. And I've already broken it. One of the tie down straps crushed the passing flasher switch and ripped it off the switch pod. Bummer, shouldn't be a big deal to fix it but I'll probably have to buy a new pod Note for folks picking theirs up in a truck: You want to either have a canyon dancer, or TWO soft Ties per side. The radiator pods prevent you from using a soft tie over the lower triple tree the normal way I strap down a Buell. But if you loop one over the lower triple tree, and then thread the other thru the first down below the triple tree, it'll work. Like this (Thanks to Ebear) (edit: whoops, rotate your head 90 degrees, it'll make sense)
Not like this:
I got the parts manual for it at the same time. Some interesting observations: 1) The seat is the same as an XB9R, but the Corbin seat isn't fitting, yet. The shock tower on the XB frame is in a different place. I'm pretty sure there will need to be a new corbin seat. 2) This thing has 2 barometric pressure sensors. It appears to have an ambient pressure sensor and a manifold pressure sensor. 3)My fuse block cover was installed 180 out and just rattling around in there. easily fixed. Both the fuse block and relay block are under the seat, a bit tough to get to. 4) The CA evap canister isn't mounted at all, just loose under the seat. Was surprised to see that. 5) The battery is further back than a firebolt, the connections are easier to get to. 6) I hate firebolt and 1125 seat hold downs. I need to design something better for there. More later as I digest this thing. Al (Message edited by al_lighton on December 12, 2007) |

that evap canister issue is pretty funny huh? I set up 4 of them yesterday and had to check each one to make sure that was how they were supposed to be mounted. |

Don't know, got mine at San Diego HD/Buell. But last I talked to Biggs, theirs weren't spoken for. SD got at least two, might have been three. I think they were the #1 volume dealer in the country last year, so I'm guessing they got a decent allocation. They seem to doing Buell right these days, lots of Buell buzz down there. Al |

Al, Ever see the soft ties that have the special sleeves to fit over the hand grips. They work amazingly well for just the issue you experienced with your new 1125R. Congrats on that by the way. Be careful! Blake |

Just playing with it....... The owners manual has all the info for setting up the security system (I didn't know it had one built in...cool), the time and such on the cool dash. I don't have the service manual for it, and it isn't in the owners manual, but Eric and I figured out that if you push and hold the Toggle and Mode buttons WHILE turning on the key, it enters diagnostics mode that does a good much of what VDSTS does, except for right there on the dash. All the sensor positions and voltages are available by toggling through. AFV, TPS, etc, right there. Most excellent!! I've already got a bunch of product ideas. But we're implementing a new IT system at American Sport Bike, and my next month is tied up bringing that system online (go-live is hopefully January 3rd). So most of the cool stuff is going to have to wait a few weeks to even think about starting. Exciting times..... Al |

The shock tower on the XB frame is in a different place. It is off-set to allow better air flow with the radiators exhaust path. The frame/tank is bigger, stiffer, and made in the USA not Italy. The engine is more forward mounted, 54% forward weight bias to the front tire. The Swing arm is longer too. The 1125r uses the automotive CAN-Bus communications. |

Al, do you have an XBR corbin seat to check with? i picked one up in advance to put on mine and was planning to bring it when i pick my 1125 up from SM-Buell in Atlanta next week.(riding back to Louisiana) is it a clearance issue with the shock? if you don't have a seat i can send you mine to experiment with. bummer about the switch pod. same as XBR? tim |

Sorry about the tie down accident Al. I know it just makes me sick to break something new. At least it's fixable. Hopefully you won't read this tomorrow because you'll be out riding. |

I have a brand new Corbin Firebolt seat that I put into stock a couple weeks ago specifically for doing a fit check when the 1125R came in. The Firebolt corbin seat has two front bumpers that rest against the frame shock tower. But those touch nothing on the 1125R. They may be somewhat unnecessary. I need to play with it still to see if it is a go. ALL corbin seats require a little bit of bumper trimming to make fit right. It is a feature, not a bug, because once you do this, they usually fit better than the stock seat (i.e. no rattling around). But I won't do any trimming on this seat until I've convinced myself that it is staying on the 1125R, don't want to ruin a perfectly good Firebolt seat. Al |

Blake, the hold downs you described are "Canyon Dancers". I have no idea where the name came from. I'm not crazy about then, they often bugger the throttle tube end a bit. And they don't work with bar end mirrors, which almost all my bikes have. Al |

The top triple tree is VERY close to the firebolt top triple tree, but not exactly the same. The 9023 Heli bar risers will not fit. But that is going to be the first thing I work on. My old back doesn't like being laid down Firebolt-like for long. Al |

That would be great if you came up with a better set up for the seat hold downs. That can be a huge P I T A. Especially with the more padded seat. |
