The insignia is a British crest (I forget which King but supposed to be from the time of the Revolutionary war) Basically, when the ship was first launched (Oct. 21, 1797) the order for the guns being made for the ship at Furnace Hope, Rhode Island wasn't completed so they had to get guns on the ship so we borrowed 14 18lb. and 12 16lb. long guns from Castle Island (Commonwealth of Mass.) Those guns we borrowed were actually left from the British after the Revolutionary War but no, we never used British guns against the British in the war of 1812. They were off the ship long before 1812 actually but that is why the re-casts on board have them on, to represent our ties with the British. They are an inaccurate representation though because the guns we have now are 24lb.er's, they should be 16 or 18lb.ers but nobody ever knows unless we tell them. |

Scotty..... I have a couple of them laying around. I have a set of red ones and a set of black/graphite colored ones. Let me know if these work for you. Oh and do you have any of those Iraq HD shirts left? I found a HD Northern Ireland shirt that I'll trade you. Let me know. |

Just what I was looking for, Jim. What do you want for the black/graphite ones? And these are badges, right? Not just decals? And I was holding a Baghdad HD shirt in reserve for you. Mind you, they're what we call "Hadji shirts" (anything made in country is generally, derogatorily referred to as "Hadji...") so they're not the best quality but they do say "HD Baghdad" on 'em. |

Nah- I just got it in the mail the other day. I had to trim it a bit to clear the frame pucks and I've got a shop lined up for the paintwork (FMS in Franklin-- they're also powder coating my can), but it probably won't get done till after the holidays. Just looking for badges b/c I wanted it to look a little stock. I think I'm going to go for black with VERY faint ghost flames. |

Scotty.... no charge, just let me look for them. I was going to put them on my bike, you know the whole black theme thing, but found that I liked the bike better without them. As soon as I find them their yours. |

I figure if I'm having some professional paint laid down, I might as well do something fancy with it... But it'll be subtle; like you'll have to be right up on the bike before you notice it. The Micron can came from the factory in a beautiful polished stainless finish. It wasn't chrome, but it was still way too shiny for me so off it went for powder coat: flat black, the only color for an exhaust. |

Oh, you tubers and your shiny bits. I can rarely bring myself to wash the bike, much less polish it. |

Dido on the cleaning and polishing - I bought the bike to ride it...not clean it. That said...it will be getting a full detailing while it's in the basement for the winter. But hey thats a yearly thing, not an every ride thing. |

Spending about 2 hours a week cleaning my bike while drinking beer and listening to music is not exactly a chore! If I'm cleaning it, it means I've already finished riding it or I'm killing time while I wait for my out of state riding friends to arrive (no beer then) - not that I'm cleaning it instead of riding it! (but to each his own - I guess you all own beige cars too.....) |

So what if my car's beige?! I mean, if I washed it, you would see that it's actually silver!

I wouldn't put any "shiny bits" on a Uly either, but if I had black rims and a black exhaust on my bike it would look like a lump of coal! |
