Here's a link to a older video (1990) of a climb up Pikes Peak! All I can say is Holy S***!! This guy has only two speeds, Stop and Full a Head Frantic! These guys are nuts one wrong turn and they're "Spam in a can" Heck I couldn't go half that fast on the road and they're on dirt half way to the clouds. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-121338015 991365725 |

Totally INSANE!!!!! I like the part where the driver is blocking the sun with hand and drifting the car. |

Cool vid. You know, that would be plenty sphincter-tightening enough even WITHOUT the multi-thousand-foot dropoffs on some of the curves. BTW, Audi was the company that got the rest of the European auto makers interested in Pike's Peak. Here's an earlier video of one of their best drivers: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5994334671 422408418&q=audi+pikes+peak&total=123&start=0&num= 10&so=0&type=search&plindex=1 |

It's an awesome race. I've been there for it many times. There's almost as many vehicle classes as the Bonneville Time Trials! Tajima damn near broke the 10 minute mark this year (10:01 !!), and vowed to break it in '08! I love all the classes, but I think this is my favorite:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXhGzq3wgeA That's Mike Ryan in the 2005 Freightliner. He runs it in a little over 13 minutes! I wish SPEED would still play those World Rally Championship races. I could sit and watch those all day. Thanks for the video Birdy. |

I rode up Pike's peak a couple of days after the race week. The rubber on the road was showing the braking zones and the apexing. It was early morning and nobody was on the road so I was running it as fast as I could. What a great time. After warming myself with coffee and checking out the view I headed back down only to find the cops and construction crews dutifully at work. The ride down was at a much slower pace. It would be the perfect road to show off a Uly!

High Country Harley/Buell sponsored a motorcycle [KTM] in the "Race to the Clouds" this year and is trying to get a Buell or two to run for 2008. It would be great if their discussions with Buell would lead to a company effort but that seems like a long shot. |

This years top motorcycle was a Rotax dirt tracker with an MX front end and an oversized front brake setup. BMW had a big presence this year and took the 1200cc class (which I believe was all BMW's!).

Yes, I would like to see Davey Durelle with a Buell for the Hillclimb. He has won a bunch there... I think 11 or 12 years. He was a Pro racer in AMA Grand National Flat Track with a 750 Harley. Dickc |

No Buell was entered this year. http://www.ppihc.com/contentx.aspx?tabid=13&xsltfi lename=PPIHCRaceDay&xmlfilename=~/Results/PPIHCRes ultsRaceDay&contentid=258 There is alot more pavement up there as of late. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnkoc9RbW4Y&feature =related The guy that pulled away at the starting line was Gary Trachy. Wounder if you could tune a Uly to keep up with that Bmer(6k to 11k plus)? Then of course you would need a pro to get it up there to beat that record for the class!$$$$$ Watch at 5:15. Imagine hitting that hole off the side at 90mph? (Message edited by snowscum on December 08, 2007) (Message edited by snowscum on December 08, 2007) |

BMW made their own class just as VW made one for the tourag V10 TDI minivans. That's why there were only BMWs in that class. |

Its a 1200cc class. Anyone can get into it if it falls into the class as far as I know. |

Grew up in Colorado Springs, we used to ride the Xr100s up there. With helmets on they never knew we were punk teenagers Never was blocked off like for the race though, and the carbs did NOT like that altitude. Good times. |

There have been KTM 950's entering offroad races with the big Beemers overseas, and even they've been outclassed. There's a bit of advertising here but good action nonetheless. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XP7Qp2pgP0k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6wkjOo90Kg |

Put Trachy on a hopped up tricked out Uly and he beats the record for 2 wheels. That would be cool! Still the little guy on his prototype rotax will probably never be beaten. |
