Chulada Posted on Wednesday, December 05, 2007 - 10:27 pm: -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ just to give you guys an update derek was transfered up to NH 2 wees ago and was dicharged today. he doesn't really remember any part of the day. he is not on any pain meds but still alittle out of it. he has lost alot of weight (his good leg is about the size of my arm). his pelvis is still pinned together but they should be coming out soon. still not sure on the status of his leg. the doctors up here say it has to go. (second opinion time) sorry for the long gap in updates but rather than daily "he's doing good" i figured i would wait for major news. |

Well,Eric, that's unfortunate news.I hope he keeps his leg.I'm glad he's mentally "there" and not vegetative like some i've known.I hope he's in caring hands. It's also a lesson for us all about chances. |

It's also a lesson for us all about chances. Word! In light aircraft it is a disease known as "get there-itis" (think JFK Jr.). On bikes it is "catch up-itis", "I'm faster-itis" "watch this-itis" and "I don't want to hold up the guys behind me-itis". That is a lot of "itis" - we are a sick bunch! Clear thinking is the only cure! unfortunately, clear thinking comes mostly from experience and experience comes mostly from poor thinking.... I hope they save his leg, but either way he has a long, long road ahead of him..... See you guys tomorrow!! |

Hey Eric...... I'm taking the boys to the Museum of Science before we go to the big boat. Wanna join? I'm headed out about 9:30-10:00. |

Yeah I was planning about 2:30 myself. The Museum of Science is great! My kids go pretty much every year with school and we have gone a lot on our own for the Star Wars exhibit and the Lord of the Rings exhibit. My company, Thermo Fisher Scientific is currently sponsoring the CSI exhibit..... I don't think the kids will want to go to the MoS (and the budget is tight!), so we will see you at the ship. |

Sail? Yes, the navy teaches us kind of. This is the only command in the navy you learn how to sail and it's not so much the navy as it is an art passed on from generation to generation at this command. Once we first get to the ship the training starts. Last spring we started climbing up the rigging as soon as the ice thawed. Shortly after the sails were up and we were setting and furling the sails at least twice a week. During winter we have a model of the top deck with rigging, sails and spars/yards (about the size of a classroom) that we practice on so everyone stays fresh. I'm the master helmsman. At around 5 knots she pulls to port but not to bad. It's tough keeping 2200 tons on course. (Message edited by smack_doogle on December 07, 2007) |

Yea I saw that post...I am getting pretty good with it now, still alot to learn, I got a few questions to get answered also... Just VERY time consumming and VERY difficult to understand ALL that info....But I am making progress. There are some programs NOT available "to most" as of yet that will help ALOT... It is definately not as easy as Direct Link but it gives WAY MORE control over EVERYTHING in the ECM.... You definately want to know what you are doing before you go changing things in there.... |

Glad you all liked it. I enjoy giving the tours and passing on the history involved. It has a lot of meaning to me being in the Navy and to be able to share it is a pretty good feeling. If you all want to do this again sometime in the future let me know. All of the tour guides have a different tour so even though I went through all the big stuff in 210 years, other guides go over different battles and some lesser known info. It's always worth to stop by when on the trail and check it out. |

Not the right time of year for it, but have any of you been to Lexington and Concord? To March where the British marched, stop where Paul Revere was stopped (and apprehended) and reflect where the "shot heard around the world" was fired is awesome! Getting together more was why I asked who the skiers are. Maybe I should ask who the "Guitar Heroes" are? |

Yeah, right outside Hanscom AFB is where those trails are (Battle Road, etc.) and they have lots of cool stop points and on weekends they have re-enactors in the old houses and shooting muskets (not at the same time). It's pretty neat but bring your bikes cause the trails can get long if your walking. Definitely go is warmer weather though. |

I updated the link above, let me know if it works now (Message edited by ducxl on December 09, 2007) |

Cannon firing I had noticed Jack saluting the flag.I wish i had gotten it.I think ALL people in uniform are supposed to STOP what they're doing whenever the colors come down. WOW,i just noticed,if you pause it right at 10 seconds into the video you can see the BIG flame comming out of the cannon! (Message edited by ducxl on December 09, 2007) |

Wow, I gotta say that pic of me above will probably make people wonder how credible a tour guide I am (definitely an action shot) nice video of the gun firing. It's cool to stand up above the gun when it fires (with hearing protection of course) the shot is felt all the way through you, not for those with heart conditions though. Glad you all had a good time. |

Jack, what do you know about those insignia on the Cannons? Were they captured from the English? Is that a King's insignia? |
