I know my post is not relevant to the 1125R Board, but I cannot help it.....Maybe posting here will make someone at the factory listen to Buell riders that like ridding Buell motorcycles to the maximum ! 2 weeks ago I installed a right side air scoop to my XB12R. It certainly does make positive difference and I strongly recommend fitting one, because : 1. The fan hardly ever comes on anymore, even when you switch the bike off! The engine runs much cooler. 2. The engine makes more power ! It never overheats, even at sustained full throttle. So.... WHY BUELL DID NOT INSTALL ONE IN THE FIRST PLACE ????? OR WHY BUELL DOES NOT OFFER A PROPER PLASTIC ONE AS A "RACE" PART ?? Why do we have to spend a lot of money for "cheap" fiberglass or "expensive" carbon air scoops, from the aftermarket ? Sometimes I do not get it. What are the factory people saying about this ??? Will the 1125R be the in the same situation ?? Small things that make a HUGE difference missing from the bike? Why did I cover 25.000 km with the XB's rear cylinder "on fire", when a right air scoop would make it run much cooler, and make the bike faster, and propably the engine last longer? I like the XB so much, that I hate when I find simple things like an engine air scoop missing! Is there a chance Buell will offer an OEM plastic right side air scoop, as a "race" part ? XB owners trully need it. I hope Buell has not written the XB off, after the introduction of the 1125R. | ||

Vagelis46, The right side air scoop is designed to increase airflow over the fuel rail when the bike is not moving. The fan comes on and is able to move air out of a confined space more efficiently with the small air scoop (stock) set-up. Of course, you are correct about a large right-side air scoop providing better cooling when the bike is moving. Every little bit helps... The latest edition of FUELL Magazine covers this topic. Buell engineers do not recommend a larger right side scoop - so I doubt they will make one. Also, I have found that using high quality synthetic oil keeps temperatures down and the fan off. HD Syn3 is ok but not considered the best. AMSOIL, MOBIL 1 4T, and some of the other 4T Racing Oils do a better job of dispersing heat. The oil in an XB is exposed to its worst temperature extreme when the motor is just turned off and stationary thin-film oil "cooks" in the head area of the rear cylinder. Of course forcing cold air to the back cylinder during low speed would work best but would probably need another fan. | ||

Yes, the small OEM right side scoop was designed to cool the fuel rail only and the large RSS's are actually less effective at this. What it boils down to is that the RSS effectively serves only to make your fan motor last longer. | ||
