Oh yeah...Gsron:

I do try to keep a pretty clean bike...but with over 18,000 miles in a little over 10 months...it don't stay parked too much! It is just too much fun for a minor issue or a little rain to keep the Uly in the garage. She begs to be ridden everyday!

I think most have upgraded to the Magnecore wires. I think you can get them from magnecore.com direct or find a retailer.

Most go with the 7mm wires, but you might ask them which they recommend. I'm thinking of upgrading to them myself.

Nice to see you were sent the right way Maximum. Get the biggest wires you can get 7 or 8mm would be great. Have fun riding boys.

Sparky, thanx for the wake-up-slap. I got/have a stiffy for a Ully so I start reading up on them and find a lot (or so I thought) of problems. I forget, sometimes, that cars, bikes and haircuts are all the same. Nobody tells you about the good ones.

Ft_Bstrd, You are right too. The GS is a very expensive bike to repair/own.
Final drive - $1Kish installed (mine was done under warrenty)
Clutch - $800ish installed (still on the orig, and it's doing fine)

There is nothing wrong with my GS. After 57,000 relatively trouble free miles in 5 years I'm bored. I want the same riding style with a bit of hooligan thrown in. I think the Ully fits the bill.

Thanx again guys for reminding me that nothing is perfect and nobody talks about whats "right" with their toys..... RON

PS does anybody know just how many Ullys are out there on the road????? (edit, never mind Sparky slipped that tid-bit in his post)

What is weird is that there are a few folks who just simply can't take the "niggles" and sell their bikes. They sell them and move on. Many of them are habitual bike traders keeping their bikes less than 18 months on average. Many of them have also come from Japanese bikes and are used to the appliance experience. Not a bad thing, but Buells are anything but an appliance.

ChadHargis here is a habitual bike trader. He has had 4 bikes in the 2 years I have known him. He has not had a trouble free experience with his Buell. He has stated that the Uly is the most comfortable, most fun, and easiest to ride bike he has ever known.

The issues are usually fairly minor. I have only been delayed by my bike. I have never been stranded. A "real" ride is never less than 500 miles.

It is a really, REALLY fun bike. It is nimble in the twisties and comfortable for all day slab. I don't start needing to stretch my legs until about 5 miles before the gas light comes on. Gas up, take a leak, and I'm good for another 150 miles.

I think the Uly will fit your bill nicely. The Tiger is also another bike to consider.

OK...I thought that it would be a good idea to get some high quality aftermarket plug wires, but I am out of town for a couple months and I really didn't want to worry about this right now.

So today I rode down to the Buell dealer in Dothan Alabama, which is where I actually purchased the bike last January, armed with a picture of the damaged plug wire. The Uly is my only transportation while here in Alabama, so I thought that I would try to convince them to fix it under warranty, and that I would set an appointment to have it fixed one day while I wait.

Low and behold they quickly said..."Yeah we will fix it"..."Do you have time for us to do it now?" They had me in and out in just over an hour, and even took a couple minutes to replace a half broken clutch cable retaining wire they noticed (2nd broken one for me). They had about ten Buell's in stock (which is 3-5 times more than most "dealers" I've seen), which kept me busy while waiting around.

Since we hear about many bad dealers, I just wanted to share a short story about a good one!
