Anyone using the 20W-50 made especially for v-twins? I need to find an oil that I don't have to go to an H-D dealer to get. I have been using syn3 in the motor w/ no issues. I am putting in the Mobil 1 today. Is this stuff the best or is there another brand u guys recommend? Thanx | ||

I have been using this in my S3 since I bought it 2 years ago and I'm sure many others will post that they have been using it far longer with no issues. I found it interesting that in what appears to be a very comprehensive oil test done by Amsoil that it came in 2nd (no one would expect Amsoil to lose their own test right? Though Amsoil is supposed to be very good too). Syn3 was something like 6th. I can find the link if you are interested. | ||

I think Mobil 1 20x50 is a very good oil. I have been using 15x50 Mobil 1 for half the price for the last ten years and also think it is a very good oil. However I wouldn't recommend using their gear oil due to stater failures,IMO. | ||

StatOr not statEr..blah,blah.I'd use Mobil-1 20w-50 if i could find it.I do use Mobil-1 15w-50 in all my bikes'.I use the "Sportrans fluid" though.The Amsoil products are a Class-III synthetic and aren't true synthetics in the pure sense | ||

My local AutoZone, that I generally hate, has the v-twin oil on the shelf....I also run it in the trans without issue (including dozens of passes down the dragstrip) | ||

I saw something yesterday, when I was getting the oil changed in the truck, it was Mobil 1 0-20W oil. I use 5-20W in the truck and had never seen 0 weight. | ||

So is that zero weight in winter and twenty weight in warmer days? Never seen that either. I have been running the 20w50 for V motors. I like it. Cooler run temps and seemed to quiet the lifters a bit. Yes you can find it at the AutoZones. Its actually a bit cheaper than the HD stuff. I do run Sporttrans or whatever its called now. | ||

Howdy, the very first time I put Mobil 1 V-twin in mu 01 S3, I was amazed at how much smoother, quieter and free revving the motor acted. I was sold on the oil at that point. Cheers. | ||

yeah 0-15 or 20 weight been out for a while it is good for the timing belted 4 cyl motors in winter especially | ||

Is there really that big a difference in synthetic oil from brand to brand? There are different types of bases and very different additive packages, so I would say "yes". That said, I think, as long as you are using oil that is correct for the application, that oil only comes in good, better and best. It is up to you to decide which meets your criteria... Just make sure that whatever oil you use that it conforms to the proper API - C rating. Not all synthetics comply with this rating. Mobil1 15-50 works great in the engine and tranny. | ||

I've been using Mobil 1 15w50 car oil for almost 40,000 miles, now. Never tried it in the transmission. I think I'll do it the next go around, though. I'd use their V-twin oil, but I can never find it anywhere consistently. | ||

Wile_ They used to stock it at the local Autozone I go to, but it was never consistent, and then they stopped altogether. When it comes to oil, I pick a brand and stay with it for the life of the vehicle; that brand has to be easily available. If I have to order the oil I'm using, then it's the wrong oil for me. In a pinch, I can get Mobil 1 15w50 at the Piggly Wiggly (that's a real supermarket chain in the South, btw). In a strange twist of fate, the Autozone I go to is where BadWebber U4eh used to work before he went back to school. I never knew this until years later. | ||

I used mobile 1 (regular syn. not V-twin) on my 2000 softail. Had no problems BUT it delayed break-in of the ring until over 6000 miles. Compared to 3000 miles with conventional oil. Now I run conventional oil for the first 3000 miles than switch. | ||

I use mobil 1 for vtwins in my buells. like they said, in the motorcycle part of walmart, or in the oil dept at most automotive stores. mobil 1 race oil is what triumph recommends for their bikes. different packaging....different oil? rex | ||

This past fall when temps were in the 25-30 degree range I made the change to Amsoil 10W40. I had easier morning starts,increased mileage, and smoother running. I never intended to make this change, however I'm happy that I did. | ||

I've been using Mobile 1 V-Twin since 99/00. I have 98,000 miles on the speedo which quit working 5 weeks ago for the fifth time. Conventional motorcycle oils disappear in my engine. (1997 S3T) Great motorcycle oil! |
