My 2000 M2 ran great for years with the normal bolt-ons. Then one day it was hard to start and would not idle. Local HD mechanic said the ignition was bad. $400.00 later he was wrong. The jetting seems all wrong all of a sudden. The bike always ran very clean with no backfiring. The bike still runs great on the top end it just won't idle. Any help is greatly appreciated. This one is making me crazy. |

Check the "other end" of the spark plug wire, and the connector up there to (the coil? I forget, but there was a plug up there like a spark plug wire). It came loose on m 00M2 and did kind of what you describe. Also run through a quick charging diagnostic. Check the battery voltage with the bike off and at idle at a minimum. A flakey voltage regulator might do what you describe as well. Then I would check the static timing, and make sure that plate is not messed up. Then I might pull apart the carb and try cleaning that. It's not a big deal to pull apart far enough to clean a lot of. I'm just guessing though, and suggesting things that are easy to check. (Message edited by reepicheep on November 25, 2007) |
