Got a Twin Tec for my 97 S1. Model 1005 single fire. Trying to static time it with the red LED. Turn the unit back and forth and never lights. Did I get a bogus unit? Or is there something that I am missing? |

I'm guessing you have the engine at TDC before you try to rotate? Crank the bike and see if the light ever comes on... |

Ratbuell keep the ideas coming...Yeah it is at TDC and I finally get the light to light but only for a second. I can't get it to stay on. It seems like I can get the red light to flash by turning the unit but I can't seem to find where. Even when turning slowly. The VOES green light also flashes for a quick second too. This is all while not running, just key on. I don't have a timing light but I heard that if you try oil in the inspection hole just makes it tough to see the marks anyway. Any help would be awesome. Thanks everyone. |

Doublecheck the instructions. It's been so long since I put the one in my FLHP that I forget..but is the light supposed to stay lit? Or does it only blink when you find TDC and then you're supposed to leave it there? Other than that, all I can suggest is to pull the shutter out of the bike (timing cup, I think it's called in the manual) and clean it real good; do the same for the TwinTec pickup. it's a magnetic pickup, if there's debris or something in there it can make a wonky signal. Worst case...get it close, fire it up, warm it up, and time by ear. |
