I know this subject has been hammered but I am ready to purchase and don't want to blow it, no pun intended, considering the Cal. Scientific, or Z.G., hate the look of the C.S. but have a feeling it may function the best out of all of them. When good weather returns I will go back to the stocker. I am 6-1" and get a little tired of the upper body blast on trips over a 100 mi. or so, any input would be appreciated. Thanks | ||

The stock one. I like it off when there's no bugs. But when it's warm and all those bugs in in my mesh armor jacket, yuk. I like my head in clean air. Bird, that screen you have looks pretty sharp on that black bike. | ||

Another vote for the stock version. I bought the Cee Baileys and it made more wind noise than the stock version. I'm 6'2" tall. | ||

I'm 6'0" tall,I've got the Cee Bailey +2" screen and find it perfect for me. It seems to allow the air to hit me in the chest at speed which keeps my weight off my wrists and is not tiring.   | ||

The Zero Gravity works best for my 5'9" frame, but I have ridden some with no shield at all and I enjoyed that too!  | ||

I'm holding out for a Madstad bracket with either the Stocker or a slightly cut-down Tall. As others have stated, depending on three or four major variables no one screen will ever work. The adjustability of the Madstad just might be the ticket, the Strom guys seem to think so. Now there's a bike with lousy wind management! Carving up back roads,below 50/60 mph nothing beats just the flyscreen. It makes the bike almost disappear below you! | ||

I've had the ZG for about two weeks and like it for the colder weather. It takes some of the wind blast off my chest and shoulders, but the downside is that it redirects it to my head. Earplugs seem to be a must with the taller screen. So...warmer, but louder in my opinion. | ||

I run the ZG screeen as well. I love it. Takes the air and redirects it to my mid chest. Keeps the weight off my wrists. It's not that loud. I had a Cee Bailey's +14 that I put on 15 miles on and it suxored. I hated it. Loud, rattled my head...sort of like two little guys on my shoulder hitting my helmet with a 5lb sledge every 1/2 second. I'm waiting on the Madstad as well. I'd like to try the Cal Sci..but I'm cheap. Here's the ZG +4. I'm 6' with a std torso length. This is the perfect screen so far. I just want more air redirected around my torso.  The Cee Bailey's I had... Not fun for me. If it was 2" shorter or 2" taller, it would have been fine.  | ||

Laminar Lip for me (w/stock screen). I'm 5-9. It came off on a trip a few weeks ago (it's bolted on now) and wow, what a difference. YMMV. | ||

Zero Gravity with MadStad bracket (prototype). Works great for my really tall frame.   With the bracket it helps refine / and place the wind. If I run just the ZG, wind blast is right at shoulders. Again, I'm tall (6'4"). The Cee Baily I had before was great, but made my head shake at hyper speeds. Yes I could tuck in, but I like to sit up and fly. If I was about 4 inches shorter it would have been perfect. But the CB with the lip and the bracket, it created a horrible buffet at any speed. Had to go with the ZG and it's been the best of both worlds. Said it before and I'll say it again: The Madstad Bracket is the best thing I've put on any bike. Mike | ||

Dr_greg, where do you locate your Laminar Lip on the stock screen? I've replaced my stock screen with a Lip, I like it. I'm thinking of trying it as designed though, mounted to the stock shield. Tried it mounted to the Buell Tall, made a bad shield worse IMO. | ||

+1 for the stocker. I can live with the wind of the standard issue screen, but not the noise that taller screens produced,(6'1" tried Buell tall and ZG +4). Earplugs are worn on all occasions. | ||

Thanks for the reply's fella's, still would like to hear from someone with a Cal. Scientific screen, the Madstad bracket looks like it could be the trick setup. I take it their not in production for the Uly yet? If they are how much $$$ and where? | ||

hey crowdog Ive been using a california scientific tall,I'm 6' 1" with a low seat its not bad and my passenger thinks it works better for her than the stock windshield with a laminar lip.however I prefer the tall (regular) seat with the cal. sci. but she says she gits more buffeting in her shoulders that way, | ||

Hey Bugnut, Nice mounts!! I must agree, the Madstad prototypes that I've been running are GREAT! I did a little testing of my own, and mounted the Madstads on the stock flyscreen (with a little reinforcing), and I've been pleasantly surprised/impressed. The Aluminum unit it very stout, and probably the best solution for vibes, but with a 'lil tinkering, the stock flyscreen is a viable option. But I'm getting ahead of myself....... The mounts adjust up/down and tilt fore/aft. Here's some pics of my Uly with a 16" Parabellum and the aforementioned Madstad mounts.   Adjusted forward.  Adjusted back.  And a close-up of the mounts from the cockpit.  We have had a bad case of the Chinooks here in South-Central Alaska (in the 40's, snow melted), which means that I may be taking the Uly out for a ride tomorrow.  | ||

Hey Vagabond! My Florida weather lets me ride all year! 80 degrees today! Whohooo! I get to ride home in two hours -yes! Anyhow, hijacking this thread, what do you have over the bolts on the screen? Looks like a cap of sorts. I have been thinking of disassembly and painting the bolts but maybe something else will save me time? I noticed much less vibes with the stock screen and the brackets too. It's just the stocker was letting the wind nail me on the shoulders and chin at the highest setting. Mark thought that the plastic fly was just too weak for taller screens like the Parabellum and ZG without reinforcement. Made sense since the higher setting I put it at caused the screen tip to fluctuate about 2 inches at idle. With the aluminum flyscreen it's about a quarter inch or less at idle. Barely noticeable to anyone but me. Crowdog, as for availability and pricing, Mark at Madstad has all the power. I've sent an e-mail to Buell Customer Service with the accolades of the product. But got a simple canned thanks for riding a Buell response. Mark wanted to make this a standard part of the bike, but Buell is still a huge company with more pressing issues then a simple windshield adjuster. If your interested, try him at his web site, or support@madstad.com. He may just need more people to request this as a product directly from him. He definitely sells the V-Strom one from his site. I would love to take credit for the idea of the screw caps and reinforcing washers, but I can't. The caps and most of the sealing washers came with my Parabellum screen. What I did was utilize Charley's idea with the Madstad mounts. The stock flyscreen is mounted/ reinforced with sealing washers against the flyscreen and on top of that are the cap lowers (all this required longer screws). With the caps installed, it's a nice look. I also used large sealing washers on the backside of the flyscreen where the Madstads are mounted. As you can see from the pics (maybe), I had to go to longer bolts hence the socket-head hex screws. With these sealing washers installed, the overall stiffness of the stock flyscreen was increased by a considerable amount. I also mounted foam weather-seal around the perimeter of the flyscreen. This more or less filled in the small gaps between the flyscreen and dash. Here's one of the screw caps:  And here's an example of the sealing washers used:  I know that Grainger carries many different sizes of these washers, but you gotta buy a box of 100 at a time. If you're feeling lucky, Home Depot may have some as well, but the selection is very limited. I Hope this garbled mess makes sense because my prose sucks today. Dickc, Try looking in the cabinets (drawers) in the specialty hardware section. My local hardware store has a fairly decent variety of these sealing washers. Also, Ace Hardware in general, carries more specialized hardware than the "big box" stores. It's worth a shot. Hope that helps. Joe | ||

Greetings, Has anyone tried spoilers like the ones available from Touratech or Saeng/Ta Engineering? I am running the Buell tall shield which took the wind pressure off the chest but causes a lot of head buffeting. If I create a spoiler with my hand at the top of the shield the buffeting goes away. I tried the Saeng micro-swirl edging last winter on a Parabellum windshield. It did diffuse the turbulence some, but IMO not enough to justify the price tag. Of course that was prior to the "Metamorphous"!  | ||

I also tried the edging. It helped but not enough. And yes it's pricey! I thought I might the Saeng/Ta Wing-Tips and see if that does the trick. | ||
