I bought the X-1 w/10K mi with a Vance & Hines already on it. After riding for 2 months giving it a fair change, I've decided it is really just too loud. Two questions: Could it be time to re-pack? Would that make it quieter? What are my other options? I'm looking for a deeper tone, & slightly louder then stock. A friend has a '07 XB9R with a Jardine, to me that sounds good, But Jardine doesn't make a model for the X-1. | ||

If you think the V&H is loud, stay away from the Force pipe. | ||

Repacking should help to lower the noise. I personally prefer the Wileyco sound. Buy a new slip on for less than $100, great fit (you do need the updated hanger though). You might get just the sound you are looking for... | ||

I believe a repack will solve the noise issue. I've a V&H and felt it was pretty reasonable with a pleasant tone. | ||

I must be young and dumb, cuz I was diggin the roar I got out of my v&h...till it broke @ just under 5000 miles. Now Im going D&D race muff. Yep....young, dumb, and soon to be legally deaf. From what I gather, the Supertrapp is what youre probably looking for, bro. I know where one is if the dude (a fellow badwebber) wants to sell. Shouldnt cost you more than $200 or so. For my 2 1/2 inch straight through fiberglass packed muffler I got from Summit racing for $40.00 and which I also thought was a bit loud I added a CC insert from "www.carchemistry.com". These were made for inserting into open headers for drag racing where noise is a problem as in high populated areas. They are said to increase mid-range with a very small (less then 1%) decrease in top end H.P. which I found to be true, and reduced the noise considerably. Really nice throaty, powerfull sound now without the window shattering effect. Never draws LEO attention even when "on it" Maybe a consideration for anyone with a "too loud" problem. Bob | ||

If you do decide to go w/ the Supertrapp, be sure to get the newer version. It is one piece ( elbow is now welded ). | ||

cheapest way to start is with the re-pack from American Sport Bike. It's like about $30 ish? It's a big jump to the SuperTrapp, even used they go for like $200 to $250. |
