Who's got a high miles XB and what is considered high miles on an XB anyway? Have you had to do any engine work as a result of wear/mileage? | ||

41,900 miles on mine. Only thing replaced was the stator at around 27,000 miles. Going to pull the rear jug this winter to fix a really small oil leak at the base of the engine. Other than that she just keeps on pulling strong. | ||

Two stators have gone out on me. Mobil1 gear oil was the culprit. Use the recommended Formula+ from the dealership. Learn from my mistake. Last time I looked I was coming up on 60thousand miles. Nothing engine wise has had to be done. I've re-built the forks after a seal leak, I think that was at like 40thousand miles or so. I'm going to replace the primary chain as soon as cash allows. I have an '03 XB9S with Buell Race kit. It's had the race kit since it's first mile. Most dependable bike I've owned, and I've owned a few. | ||

25k on my XB9S. The only thing that has been replaced was the primary cover after the dealer stripped the threads. | ||

2004 XB12R, just over 40k miles. No leaks or seeping anywhere. Occasionally I lose chin fairing bolts from vibration. Dropped a kickstand bolt once for the same reason. Runs better all the time. Best, most reliable bike I've ever owned. I have also owned a few. | ||

Occasionally I lose chin fairing bolts from vibration. Welcome to the club, any luck with a solution, other than lock-tite? I've tried lock-tite, and ended up breaking the head off one of the fairing bolts that bolts to the muffler. | ||

Loc-tite keeps the chin fairing bolts in place for a decent amount of time. I carry spares under the back seat, with a little loctite on the threads so they snug in nicely. I also carry a spare kickstand bolt and shifter linkage bolts "just in case". | ||

I'll let him post the details himself, but we have a guy (Mikethebike72) here locally in NC with well over 50k on his '04 Firebolt My '04 XB12R has 31k on it. The only failure that required going into the engine was replacing the base gaskets at 4k miles. | ||

'03 XB9R, 49.8k miles, replaced all lifters at one point because of excessive ticking noise; cyl base gasket leak fixed; R&R'd 3 headlights, both fork seals, speedo sensor; chg'd spark plugs once. | ||

15 k in one year.... @17900 now, I expect to be up to 22k Before the ides of March, yes I will get 2500 miles this winter! Goal is to keep the bike til 50k then maybe do a 1250 upgrade. | ||

05 XB9SX with 20k miles. A couple bolts fell out, and battery was getting soft after 20k miles. Otherwise normal maintenance (which is far less then the normal maintenance on my Kawasaki). Didn't do fork maintenance yet, will this winter. Didn't replace spark plugs yet, should this winter. | ||

Dyna, I beat the living snot out of my firebolt!  I would wheelie it at least a dozen time a day, stoppies were the norm, track days, repeated rev limiter shifts, dropping it, and all round treating it just like it was stolen. Ask anyone who rode with me. That bike would still be here had I not stuffed her into a ditch. | ||

As Spike said, my 04 XB12R was bought 4/21/04, I will be turning 57,000 within a week. Very few troubles, but last 2 oil changes, I have had abnormal amount of filings on the engine oil drain plug. Time to find out what is going on and to upgrade while I am in there. | ||

(Mike... I would look at the oil pump drive gear... drop the pump and check it sooner rather then later... easy check that saves a huge potential problem) | ||

Wow...I'm impressed!! I guess I haven't even taken the sticker off of mine with 5K miles in 5 months. I did have to have the Clutch replaced at 4500 miles tho. Everyone says that it doesn't sound normal... except the dealer who said it was "normal wear" and would not replace it under warranty.  |
