Well I wrecked in August of 06.

I had a Old "race use only" frame that I coated with bed liner for two reasons.

I didn't have time or room to have the frame checked for straightness and cracks, it was a big crash.

On top of that the polished aluminum look powder coat looks good for all of a half of season.

It had rub marks all over it from jeans, polishing compound, wax, etc. Even if you ran your fingernail on it wrong it would turn darker than the area around it.

I heard there are specific ways to apply said coating and if one step is messed up by one micron it will cause it to act like described. I can take pics if you want.

I highly recomend against the powder coating I got, go the extra yard and get it chromed if you want it to be shiney...

Not all powder coat is made the same. I used to powder coat for a company called Hoffman Enclosures. They made hugemongous electrical boxes. Most of the standard colors were awesome, we could pop hinges, widen door openings or "tweak" a fit with a hammer and no one would be the wiser. BUT if you got into some of the custom colors and it didn't bake right or the mils were just a little thick, fugitaboutit! I've seen them discolor with just windex and no way in Heck's (remember them?) could you touch them up. If you want the durability of a powder coat, ask the coater and they should be able to recommend a color and supplier, yes suppliers are different.
This is all just my opinion anyhow, but chrome would look way cool.

I had the aluminum coat done on two different parts by two different shops and two different suppliers of powder, same result.

I may be having drinks with the goalie coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs goalie coach tomorrow so I will post em later this week...
