KTM have officially launched the new RC8 model at the Milan show this week, and it will be on sale by the new year. Not only have they revealed the roadgoing version but they also showed their forthcoming World Superstock racer as well!  Now that is what I call a bike launch ;) Interestingly, although the engine has been completely redesigned since the prototype was seen 5 years ago, and is now 1149cc and 150+bhp, they will also be releasing a homologation special later next year with 1190cc and around 200bhp which will enable them to race in WSB. The road version has apparently been developed with the road rider in mind, so it will make a very interesting comparison with the 1125R. | ||

Rumour suggests a retail price for the RC8 1140 at around GBP9000 here in Blighty, which is around GBP500 more than the 1125R and considerably less than the 1098 base model. Just to put the cat amongst the pigeons, the new 848 Ducati was also launched at the same time and will cost around the same or slightly less than the Buell, so there will be some stiff competition amongst the V-Twin sales this Spring I think. I am impressed that KTM have committed to racing at such an early stage, and this speaks volumes of their confidence in their new bike. Knowing KTM, nothing less than absolute success will satisfy them. I am a fan of theirs, but it even surprised me todfay when I looked at their web site at just how widespread their sporting achievemts are and how much they are putting into racing in a number of completely diferent formulae. | ||
