I think this bike looks great. I'm not a big fan of their under the seat gas tank though. The 1200 GS has a huge gas tank that's easily increased, yet the 650 and 800 are stuck with average sized tanks. This one looks like it could be a great medium between the 1200 GS thats a bit too big and bulky to be great on trails, and the 650 GS, with it's thumper engine not being the best for long stretches of highway. Also notice the mirrors!

Different market all together, uncomfy seat and too focused towards the dirt for me. |

... and it's about time. I've been waiting for this motorcycle for a long time. Too bad I'm so happy with my Uly's two-up distance capability and performance. You can bet I(we) will be test riding one asap when available though, you never know. Notice it has a final chain, guess BMW isn't comfortable with belts in the dirt... |

I can't help but think that BMW pulled off some of the things that Buell was hoping to do in the market. Probably just beat Buell to the punch. Their Rotax engine is perfect for their fleet of lighter fuel efficient mid-priced bikes. The fact that these bikes use so little BMW components is a good thing to me. Chain drive, standard suspension, Rotax engines, etc. all make for what should be a cost effective reliable bike. BMW probably has a better real-world engine than what Buell is using from Rotax especially if you want to use it across multiple models. Add to that BMW's acquisition of Husky and you probably have one of the reasons that Buell bailed on the dirt bike scene as well. I left BMW after many years of poor quality and expensive maintenance but these bikes will make me take another look. |

Most antisapated BMW bikes in years! When I heard about chain drive, I started looking for a Uly. Chain not bad but after 9 years on a F650 I wanted anything but a chain drive. I test rode a F800ST and it was great !!! (except the riding position). The ADV rider thread is a mile long for this bike and no one has even seen in person or rode one ... amazing response !!! Should be a great seller and take on KTM big time! Chas |

Different market all together, uncomfy seat and too focused towards the dirt for me. Really? I thought the whole GS line was very capable of cross-country riding (meaning comfortable seats) but I've never ridden one to know for myself. I also know that the dirt options (tires and hand guards) are stirctly that, options. You can get it with street tires (see many of the pictures above). I didn't think it was that different of a market. A do anything go anywhere bike. But I wasn't necessarily posting it here as competition with the Uly. I'd still prefer the Uly over it. I just thought it was a cool as heck bike. (Message edited by Mikef5000 on November 06, 2007) |

I've heard that they have had some problems with the existing f800 bikes. Hopefully just a new to the US market glitches and things have been straightened out. Nice looking bike though. I did ride and love the F800s. |

I like the fact it has "real forks" not that paralever stuff and it also has a chain...I think BMW finally has a motorcycle I would ride. |

Well it's about time, Black and yellow looks awesome. I was out on a ride this weekend with a GSXR,RR,999S,& Strada, I have come to the realization that my Uly is the best SPORT bike I have ever owned Who would have thought it! I'm thinking of canceling my 1125 order This may well be one of the best, if not the best bike I have ever owned. I friggen love this thing. Who needs a sport bike bike, when you have a ULY. Please tell me I am not the only one that feels this way. |

I'm not a big beemer fan, but I think that front end look cool as sheit. Nice tire sizes. The back end does not look very comfortable at all. Only an 800cc too. Not even close to the Uly's baddass looks. You're not alone Karlsbad. We are waaay past just having Uly-itus. I really love the Uly. Temps are touching the 60s now and the ride to work every day is soo much freakin fun that my nipples wont let my shirt touch my chest for about an hour after I get here. I may need to put some duct tape on them babies. mmmmm...duuuuct tape..... |

How much heavier is this bike over the F650GS? I see this as a larger KLR option for those who might want to do a little more slab. I'd do offroad with this much more than an R12GS. I really like it. |

F650GS is 175 Kilos (385lb.) F800GS is 178 Kilos (392lb.) Those are BMW's numbers so the absolute values may not be based in any reality, but useful for comparison. |

Karlsbad: I agree too! In fact, a few weeks ago I rode my Uly to Alabama (1600 miles) for an 8 week class for work because I didn't want to miss out on my daily Uly fix. Come December, when I head back to Colorado, we shall see if that was a good decision! |

>>>Court... Is that Peter / Grizzly? Tough call . . . but it sure looks familiar to me. . . he is sometimes hired by manufacturers to ride a camera bike in races. There have been problems in the past though but finally he agreed not to pass the racers. The last time I saw him he was drinking Henrik's booze in my dining room . . . He's an ornery cuss!

Come to think of it . . . Henrik has never called back for his next lesson either!

My advise . . . . if you are ever in Holland and a cop on a motorcycle chases you . . . don't run. Of course, it would be his son Mike. . . but I think Mike rides better than Grizz. |

Thanks Brett. So theoretically, for 7 more pounds, I can get more HP, lest vibrations, and an overall better bike? What's not to like? |

"What's not to like" I agree but the one thing that will be an eye opener to all the folks that have been waiting for this bike will be pricing. There is so much buzz about this bike that BMW is going to load them up with every accessory they make as long as demand is high. I would expect OTD pricing in CA to be close to $15K. |

Cool. I'll buy a fully loaded 08 in 2010 for $11,000. 1098 or F800GS for $15,000? I'll take the GS with the crack and pipe attachment. |

This is a step in the right direction for sure. As for what's not to like - the chain and seat - as has been mentioned and the water cooled engine which somehow hasn't. I have this idea that perhaps someday I'll get another BMW. If only the GS* wasn't quite so much of a pig. I totally love the Uly - pretty much everything about it - the nakedness, the simplicity, the awesome handling - but sometimes I miss the deep rumbly purr of the airhead boxer compared to the visceral raspy of the thunderstorm. Perhaps what I want is simply an airhead GS, but without the problems of maintaining a 15 or 20 year old bike. (I'm lazy! I admit it!) edited * the 1200GS that is. A thumper is completely out of the question. (Message edited by atoms on November 07, 2007) |

I've heard that they have had some problems with the existing f800 bikes. The ones released in Europe had fuel leaking problems. $15,000 for an 800cc dirtbike. I'd rather have a Ducati Hypermotard. |

Personally I'd rather have my Uly than a Hypermoto Duc, even with the problems I've had and probably will have. Can't even imagine two-up 300+ mile strings of days on the Ducati, never mind packing gear for the trip. And those mirrors are friggin' ridiculous IMHO. But that's just me, and I like Ducatis. If and when my Uly breaks on the road at least HD dealers can sometimes help, it's happened to me. Nothing like having one hell of a dealer network coast to coast, even if the Buell rider may know more about Buells than the dealers. My Uly is NOT a dual sport as far as I can tell, but it friggin shines on the various semi-paved roads I like to find. It's capable of performing better than I can on the street. The F800GS looks to me to be a winner, I've never met an F-rider who didn't love the bike. To me the 800GS is going to fill a void between all those thumper d/s bikes and heavier more street-oriented bigger twins. I'm sure BMW will rack us pricewise here in the States but I'll bet this bike kicks butt in sales elsewhere on the planet. |
