Looking for ideas and routing for moving the exhaust up from out of the bike. I need the clearance. Not really a KV as there isnt anybody doing the part, not really specifically XB or Uly. Here is my first rough idea.

You'd have to keep the system flexible if you're gonna hard mount it to the frame. Right now, it's hard mounted to the engine. This allows the exhaust to vibrate and move in conjunction with the movements of the engine. If you hard mount it else where, it will move independently of the engine. This will cause flex and fatigue and eventual failure of the exhaust system. Ulendo was working on a similar system and scrapped it due to design limitations. |

Thanks for the note FB. I think it is like that damn bike cage that works against the isolater on the engine mount. @ IMS show both Sat & Sunday, I will be working between Buell and the Chrome Cowboys Posers (the choppers) Come down and say hi, there should be a get together after wards. check up in local stormin section. CorporateMonkey said he would be there too |

I agree Brian. The problem is that you have a lump that shakes like a crack wh0re. Everything must either be strapped to the crack wh0re or isolated from the crack wh0re. |

What about sectioning the current exhaust to take 2 to 3" of depth off it. |

What about sectioning the current exhaust to take 2 to 3" of depth off it. I'm with this train of thought. Although I must admit that looks pretty badass without anything underneith. |

You could run a shortened GP stinger style. You'd end up with a 2" collector and a short pipe pulled up through the gap between the swing arm and the engine and route the short stinger just past the rear heal on the right side (opposite of oil fill and preload knob. That way you could still use some of the mounting structures from the old exhaust system to provide rigidity, but you'd need to limit the expanse of exhaust located aft of the mounting. You'll be able keep the exhaust isolated and shave probably 3 inches off of the bottom of the engine.
If you did need to do any body mounting, it would be minor and merely to dampen small vibrations and large movements. You might look at rubber exhaust mounting components from the automotive sector. Most exhausts are mounted using rubber hangers to prevent exhaust to body vibration transfer. |

They're still hard mounted. You CAN build them like that, but you may be rebuilding them often. |

just run a wide flatened straight pipe, not the best performance, but more clearance. |

Google up some racing exhaust manufacturers in your area and tell them what you need. You MUST have a slip joint (spring-attached) half way between the exhaust flange and the muffler - helps relieve stresses. And yeah, DON'T even think of mounting it to the frame. That's a disaster waiting to happen. |

Full width, flat straight pipe, minimal baffling, with large openings on both sides for maximum flow. Then add a lovely red skid plate for extreme smashability. |

What he needs is something like this.... Shave 2 inches off the bottom and add a thick bash plate that protects the bottom / front...

What kind of a sick bastard smashes up a race muffler? WELL the stocker sounded anemic, it begged for a stage 1 and breather kit... and I ride off road... ALOT, things go bash off road... ALOT, so you get dents in the under slung exhaust... ALOT. ie I need to move the exhaust or put it on a thinning slimming diet. or get stretched on a medieval rack so I can ride a ULY |

doesn't the buell blast use a really flat muffler that mounts under the engine? And isn't the blast engine case very similar to an XB's? I wonder if a blast can could be adapted? |

Just a question... Have you tried a short baffle sized to the header? You could put a simple turn out on after and it may have enough back pressure and should not be much louder than a D&D... Just a thought. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN8X1baXKt0 |
