Has anyone had their fan not operate at all, but it runs if I run a wire from the black/orange wire to the ground? Sometimes if I take off the seat and move the wires in the ECM plug it will work. Also the fan will sometimes work, but so slow you can barely see it turning. Is this just a connection problem? |

I cannot help you, but I just received my 08 Uly and the fan works for several minutes after I shut her down. Sounds a bit on the loud side but is working fine. JB |

I have a 08 xb12s that the fan came on all the time and all of a sudden it stopped .I know that the weather got cooler, but even when i let it idle after riding for a while the fan still doesnt come on.Is this normal I let it idle for 15 min after riding and no fan .When I turned bike off it ran for 12 minutes.Does anyones 08 fan come on at idle after ridding or while sitting at idle for a while. My brothers 07 comes on alot in same weather conditions |

I've had the same happen to mine after idling for a period of time. No fan and then it pings terribly after that. It also doesn't turn on right when you turn off the bike, but instead waits for a minute or two. That has been like that for a year and the dealer said it didn't show a code. Now just recently the ecm finally realized there is a problem and showed a 36 code(cooling fan). I also have been able to compare to another bike since my sister just bought an 07 XB12scg and her fan is running alot more than mine. |

I don't know about the specifics, but it makes perfect sense that a fan would not run while the bike is moving, but would run after you shut the engine down. While the bike is running, oil is still circulating and still moving heat away from the engine. Also, the bike is probably moving, so it is doing its normal "air cooled" thing that way. When you shut off the motor, the ECM knows that in terms of getting heat out of that rear cylinder, it can't count on *anything* anymore... so it kicks on the fan. Otherwise, all the heat around that back exhaust valve will be dumped into a small amount of non circulating oil, raise it's temperature through the roof, and break it down. Like taking a little bite out of your oil every time you shut down the bike. Water cooled bikes do this also... when the motor stops, the coolant stops circulating. 12 minutes does sound like a long time though... mine never ran that long... maybe 5 minutes max, and rarely that long. |
