I have searched and found posts talking about an after market isolator which is better or longer lasting than the OEM unit. Can someone tell me who makes it and where to find it? Also which isolators should I get for the rear, as in is this a part that can be sourced from an XB or from the after market? Thanks... |

I saw a post about an aftermarket isolator (harder rubber, or derlin, or some other material), and there was nothing good posted about them. Everyone recommended strongly against them. And he who smelt it, delt it. (Message edited by Mikef5000 on October 31, 2007) |

From what I've gathered, the updated rear isolators ( larger w/ blue tab ) from Buell are the best available. |

BUELLers: Just a little "REAR ISOLATOR HISTORY" ... BUELLs originally used BIG TWIN FXR/FLT isolator H-D PN 47564-86 which was up graded to -86B which usually lasted about 40K miles ... BMC then came out with a up grade REAR ISOLATOR KIT ("BUELLschitte PART NUMBERING SYSTEM)" PN Z0010.CB ... Up graded at 40K and they have lasted 60K to date ... You really do not have to buy the KIT as all you really need is RIGHT REAR ISOLATOR L0505.9R and LEFT REAR ISOLATOR L0504.9L ... FRONT ISOLATOR: The FRONT ISOLATOR is off a BIG TWIN and is H-D PN 16207-79 which was up graded to -79A, then -79B, and finally now -79C ... Now if you buy the H-D PN 16207-79C it will cost you $45.00, "BUT" if you buy the BMC "BLAST" one PN L0501.T you get the Repackaged H-D PN 16207-79B which is just as good for $16.15 which is a $28.85 savings !!! It is kind of like GENERAL MOTORS, it depends on which GENERAL MOTORS vehicle the same part retro fits to is what you pay for it ??? Now if you buy these after market HARD RUBBER ISOLATORS or in anyway stiffen them you down grade the isolator system to where it will feel like you are riding a PRE-RUBBER MOUNTED SPORTSTER ... lafayette, the original isolators were not from softails, but rather from fxr/flt's..... as erik designed that chassis as well. |

Hold on here -- let me make sure I understand this. I'm replacing the front engine mount / isolator at the steering head for my '00 S3. Do I need to get PN L0501.T or PN 16207-79C or am I missing something here? EDIT: Correct PN to get is HD 16207-79"B" OR Buell PN L0501.2. Upgrade to "C" does not work in Buell. Are these two PN's the exact same? Or is it a case of the Blast part# "close enough to work"... Thanks for the AWESOME information!!! (Message edited by sloppy on November 02, 2007) |

Sloppy & BUELLers: If you look on the front isolators you will find a Harley-Davidson part number cast in the rubber ... The H-D part costs $45.00 and the BMC part costs $16.15 ... Sometimes prices vary from Dealer to Dealer ... If the cheaper part is and will work just as good which would you buy, well "i" would op for the BLAST part ... The H-D one has 16207-79C on it and the one in the BLAST parts package has 16207-79B on it ... "i" have a 97S3T and it has a 16207-79B which came came OEM with it ... "i" can not remember when BMC went to the "BUELLschitte" numbering system, BUT it may have been in 2000 ... Although BMC still uses some Harlet-Davidson part numbers, BUT not many ... BMC used to use Harley-Davidson part numbers with a Y after the year, ie: -95Y and if up-date later it would be -95YA ... The Harley-Davison part numbering system anything other than hardware(nuts, bolts, and washers)carried a -XX which was the first year used and a capital letter to indicate each part up-date from A on ... Now if you go to a H-D/BUELL Dealer and tell the parts person you want a BLAST PN L0501.T for your TUBE FRAME BUELL the response that you will get is that it will not fit ... So you just ask for the BLAST part number and say you have a BLAST ... "i" like to have fun with the parts people, so "i" go to the Dealer Parts and ask for the BLAST front isolator by BMC part number saying "i" have a TUBE FRAME BUELL ... "i" also take the old front isolator with me so "i" can say it will, then they go get the part and we compare what they look like, which they do ... They then do not know what to say, BUT "i" do not tell them about the H-D numbering system which they should already know ... In BUELLing LaFayette |

The good ones have "Barry" molded into them. They are made near where I live in the People's Republic of Massachusetts. |

thats allot of information I'll save this as a link. I would gladly pay an extra 28 dollars if the part lasts an extra 10K miles even I love riding this bike and like the way the chassis engineered but it sure is an attention for garage time. |

Okay, so I'm back from the HD store, after taking about 15 minutes to explain that even though I have a Buell, that they can get HD parts for Buell as it's on the same structure as a 2000 Sportster... Anyways... I picked up PN 16207-79C, which has stamped on the isolator, LORD J-21920, Made in China. Did I get the right part??? |

Found the information in KV. -79C is NOT the correct one, but instead it should be -79B (which is the same as Bull PN L0501.2), as per BPAB#32 via Al (thanks Al!). Time to go back to the store. Interesting how even though Buell is HD, you can't buy Buell PN's from an HD only dealership. I guess it's like buying Pontiac Parts at a Chevrolet Dealership? Please edit your posts above so anyone further doesn't get confused... |

I tried a front isolator from a harley dealer that they said would work. They said it was the same as a BT. The problem I had was the bolt would not fit through the isolator. I took it back and got my $45 back. I still need to get the correct one but the old one is still ok for now. |

Discussion on KV on -79B vs. -79C and why "C" doesn't work? "Buell has released a Parts and Accessories Bulletin (BPAB#32) that says that the NEW part number for the old part (16207-79B) is now L0501.2. Do NOT use the -79C version, it does not accommodate the D washer that Buell needs." http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/162434.html?1185653223 |

FYI Dennis Kirk carries PN H14462 which is "* Made to replace OEM NO. 16207-79B". It's a Drag Specialties product. Haven't used it so I don't know how well it works. From the pictures it looks like it should work. Cost is $20. |
