there were also no plans for a liquid cooled motor. |

Apparently there were... Anony (nor Erik) really made a point of saying "there would never be a liquid cooled engine". Quite the opposite. It seems logical for a company like Buell to not follow the whims of race organizations. It would be nice if 1200CC's were possible with little modification of the cases though . |

Hmm.. it's time again to stick my ignorant uneducated neck out and risk making a bigger idiot of myself. I consider it balance to all the knowledgable posts by engineers Here goes... Is it not the exact displacement of 1125 ccs that give the engine its wide power range & torque through out? Punching it out may be good and well for the top end (for those that 160+ mph is simply still not fast enough) but what about the bottom? Unless it's oriented toward racing, (which it ain't) I don't see the point. Alrighty then. Balance has been restored. (Message edited by metalstorm on October 30, 2007) |

Thanks Guys... I was just curious... I am STILL going to get one... BUT.. I have to wait till NEXT year. The wife is wanting a bike (HER FIRST). Sooo i figured it would be cool to get her one first then that opens the door for me to get a few toys to play with. Matt. |

Just to clarify, no one from Buell ever made a point that there would never be a water-cooled engine. Quite the opposite in fact. But there are no plans in place for a 1200cc version of thie 1125R engine. |

That's an accurate statement. Erik Buell was quote in an interview as saying Buell would be eventually doing a water cooled motor. Of course, it was 19 years ago and even though he had the water cooled motor coupled to a frame with fuel in it . . . he never dreamed it would take 19 years to push it through to production. Fortunately . . . I had a friend who was there with a camera.

I know what you mean, Johnny. I traded my baby brother my XB9R for his 1995 Camaro Z-28 and told the wife it's hers. Then I got rid of her Dodge Dakota. Now I wait for the 1125 and drive her Camaro... Care to share some photos with us, Court? Z |

show us the pics court haha. so in addition to punching out the cyclinders an aditional 3mm or so to bump the displacement up to around 1200 and putting in some bigger sluggs would it be necessary for different ballance shafts if the rotating weight changes unless you can keep the weight the same? i wouldnt think so correct me if im wrong. |

"We are not driven by race organization whims." Only one very familiar with Erik Buell's history would understand the impact of this statement. |

Folks haven't even got the first production bike yet and already somebody want to re-invent the wheel. Apart from the formidable technical difficulties that would be encountered [this ain't no Harley] dealing with squish area, flame travel, detonation potential, source codes for fueling and timing maps, camming, etc., etc., what is to be gained? Maybe, MAYBE 2 or 3 lbs./ft of peak torque; likely NO hp gain and nothing in any event unless all the corollary issues can be addressed. Wouldn't it be smarter to simply wait for subsequent model years and/or models which will, as surely as night follows day [Anony has already dropped the hint a 'couple times], have enhanced power?

The only "not" statement with regard to water cooled engines attributable to EB is that water cooling is not required in order to meet EPA standards (i.e. the lump has plenty of life in it as long as it is marketable) And in terms of marketability, a water cooled engine is/was a foregone conclusion because that's what [a large segment of] the market wanted [in addition to whatever personal feelings EB has]. Wanna sell bikes - you gotta build what people want... |

Why all this talk about a measly 75cc when we could be asking about mods necessary to mount a turbo??? |

Now that will be fun to see someone do! How about one per cylinder though?! Twin turbo!!! |

Supercharger? Can we drive it off the cam chain and stick it all in the airbox? |

Twin turbo is unnecessarily complicated and turbos that small are hard to find. But one turbo--- now you are talking, add another 50% hp easily. Modern electronics make fueling easy to manage and turbo can be sized for no lag and great drivability. The fuel in frame makes this a great bike to do this to as no gas tank in the way. Easy to make plenum where the airbox is.Send me one and I'll give it a go. |

Cams ,headwork and bigbore!!!! Where would you take the heads, and who can grind the cams? I think AF1 can already provide a big bore kit for it. |

They haven't even produced the 1125 for sale yet. Why would they tell folks that they have plans for a 1200? So potential customers would say "no thanks to the 1125 - I'll wait for the 1200 to come out." It will never happen. |

Where would you take the heads. Good question 2kx1. I`d send em to Wes & Pammy at Cycle-rama. But I would be having to much fun on the bike to tear it down. I guess i`m one of the few folks that hasn`t seen one in person YET. I am really looking forward to it. Just a short story. Buell sold me after the demo on an S1. I mean really sold me, Raw Rude in your face torque & handling. Now were talking refined power torque & handling. If I demo the 1125R I have this feeling in my gut, That soon after that demo. I will have one in the stable. Ah the future is bright indeed. S1Eric |

Not the only one, Eric, I haven't seen one yet either. My first look at one "in the flesh" will be when I open the crate when mine shows up in Denver. 3 weeks and counting. Build fast, little elves... Z |

Turbo: variable vane or twin scroll design would get the job done nicely. Need to shim the heads to get CR down if you wanted to run any more than 4 or 5 lbs. of boost, & I don't know if there's physical room to do that in the chassis even tho' it'd only be a few thou. Also, have to hang an intercooler on it somewhere or it'd run 'bout 5 seconds at full boost before melting down. Bigger or additional injectors, maybe water-injection. Boost-referenced ECU. Where's my development budget Anony?? Fun, fun, fun.... (Message edited by rfischer on October 31, 2007) |

RFischer - we could have some fun. I have a core Garrett VNT25 in the garage from a Shelby CSX (my other hobby) and could send it to Chris at turbosunleashed for a new set of bearings. Hmm...rebuild the turbo. Nice small area, quick spool, developed for a 1.4L engine so 1.12 wouldn't overtax it (like the 2.2 did - the car now runs a 60-trim VNT). Self-regulates to about 7psi; a restrictor would bring that down to 5. Boost referenced fuel pressure regulator, and ignition system similar to MSD-6BTM that allows adjustable retard per psi of boost. A/F gauge to keep tabs on things, knock sensor to kill timing if the 6BTM doesn't do it fast enough, maybe a small intercooler if needed. Oh...wait...I've ridden the 1125r. I love it just the way it is. Nevermind! |
