Mikej,
Was that you on a sweet looking white S2 last night on 94 by Mooreland Road? It was a very sharp bike.

Jeff,
If it was around 6pm northbound Moorland to eastbound 94 then yep it was me. Where were you?
I still have to mount the clock in the dashplate to cover/fill the butcher job a previous owner did. Either that or find an original stock dashplate. Tried to fit the new seat I bought to it last night (before the clutch inspection screw decided to loose it's head) but there are some minor fitment issues to resolve (new seat, old bike, probably settle in once it gets sat upon for a few thousand miles).

How's your project progressing?

I had the company truck and was over dropping off a bike at Hal's and picking my X1 up. They did an estimate on the deer damage. Not too bad, about $600. It has been killing me not being able to ride in all of this nice weather. I only have a couple hundred miles this summer and most of those were down in Daytona.

I am still on a search for a beat up Blast. Hal's doesn't have anything under $3500. I want to get my girlfriend riding this summer, but don't have a lot of cash to put into a bike.

I did see the Firebolt Hal's has and got to look at the FBolt race bikes. They are super trick.

Well shoot, I would have sold you the little Honda 450 for $250. Wasn't much on performance or handling or brakes though.

Did you see how they mounted/welded the slider mounting bolt to the frame/tank on the race XB? A couple weeks ago it was down to bare frame when I was there on Cleveland. Noticed a few other little additions they put in a few places on the frame. Be interesting to see it assembled but without the bodywork to really see what all they've done.

On the Blast, I suspect there will be a major trade-in flood this spring/early-summer. The few times I've been down there it seems like every other customer is looking to trade-in their Blast for either an FL or XL or twin-Buell. I may be up in Wausau this weekend, I'll see if they have anything there looking for a good home.

Mikej,
I have called about that one. The frame needs to bee replace. A new frame goes for about $350. They are firm on their price. If you get up there, maybe you can take a look at it and let me know how bad it is. I guess it was smashed between two cars while sitting at a stop light.

Weather is not looking to good for a ride tomorrow. Possible snow & just downright miserable conditions. Damn it all to hell.

JeffB,
The Blast looks okay, but tweaked definitely. The main remaining bend appears to be on the front downtube or engine-hanger support. Throws the who back end out of skew. Definitely needs a new frame unless you have a real precise frame shop who can bend the tweaked one back into shape and maybe add a little reinforcement to support the stressed metal from going out of skew again.

He said his price was at $2710, but I just checked the link above where it shows $2595, so I don't know what the story is there on the price. They do have a sweet S1 on consignment with low miles though. I forget the price.

Don't know if it'd be worth your drive up there to see the Blast unless he threw a new frame into the deal for that $2710 price. It also has a salvage title or something, which may or may not affect your decision.

I just got an Email back from them saying I could buy it for $2500. I can buy a frame from Hal's for right around $300. I don't think I would try to straighen the old one. So I am looking at $2800 plus my time to tear apart and reassemble. I have found another one down in East Troy for $3200 that is in good shape. That is the next best option. What do you think?

My opinion is that if the $2800 deal comes with a salvage/reconstruction title, and if the $3200 deal comes with a clean/uncrashed bike/title, and if you ever decide to sell or trade-in the bike, then that $400 difference will help on the resale of the $3200 bike and will hurt the $2800 bike. On the other hand, that $400 will buy a real nice helmet or other riding gear. Plus it sounds like the $3200 bike is ready to ride where the $2800 deal would take awhile to be ridable, plus the required State Patrol inspection required prior to getting it retagged for the road. If money's tight, and you have no plans to ever sell the bike, then the crashed one seems workable, but otherwise I'd go for the cleaner and less-work-needed bike, all else being equal.
If I threw in enough words there to totally confuse you, then I did my job.

I think the $2500 price basically puts that bike up north into the "parts for a race bike category", which is what the dealer sort of suggested while I was there. Snag it for $2500, put the components onto a Spondon or other flat track frame, then go play.

$2,500 for a crashed Blast? NO WAY should you buy that!! Have you checked e-bay or cycle trader? I have seen many Blasts being sold for $3,000 in perfect shape.

The one in question has had most of the repairs made, new forks, new bodywork, new other stuff. But yep, there does seem to be an abundance of Blasts in good condition in the $3000 price range.

Finally made it back to town just in time for winter

Did I miss anything (except Summer)?? Has the ride been rescheduled? Is the Firebolt demo ride still on for Saturday? Is my bike fixed (oh yeah, it's fixed. It's the weather that's broken)

Back to work It looks like I'll be here until next April with the amount of work piled on my desk.

Later,

Mennis

I hear what you guys are saying. I think it is too much too, but I can't find anything in or around Wisconsin for similar money. There are all sorts of $2800 Blasts in Florida, even at dealers. Wisconsin dealers laugh at you if you say anything under $3500. This is going to be for my girlfriend (and for me to play with) and I don't have much of a budget, if anything, to spend on it. Ebay hasn't been too helpful. By the time I shipped a $3000 bike from Arizona or something, I might as well go buy one from Hal's for $3500.

Thanks for the help though. Keep your eyes pealed for me. I am going to try to forget about the Wausau Blast for now.

Ya know Jeff, I'm thinking that if a guy walked into Wausau with $2,000 cash and an empty truck outside, that they'd give it some real hard thought. When I was there he was talking about the price of a bare Blast engine, sounded like he was starting to think of parting it out. That bike was the owner's daughter's bike, or some deal like that.

He said the S2 they had in there wound up getting shipped off to Seattle, wished I could have seen it in person. That S1 they have up there is also real nice.

Take your lady friend for a drive up north there. If they don't take the offer then you at least have a nice drive in the country.

Wisconsin is a funny state. Milwaukee barely has any Buells on display, Suburban has a few, West Bend in Hartford had two a few months ago, and Hal's has at least a dozen or more. Feast or famine, all within 30 miles of each other. Interesting stuff.

WTF is up with this weather!!!!

Doen't look like there is much of chance of riding the 'Bolt tomorrow. 90% chance of rain starting at 1:00pm.

Do you think they'll let me demo one on Monday? Probably not

And to make things worse, my ride is still sitting in the shop waiting to be picked up. It most be a full moon.
