Yeah, the world today is so much more intolerant of sexy girly pictures than it ever has been! ROFLMAO What is happening?!! rolleyes Does the word "reality" mean anything anymore? LOL! You guys crack me up. I imagine you'd complain if you were prevented from viewing one of the many pay per view pornographic channels in my own living room.

Some will deride a reasonable policy defining what is acceptable content for this site while seeking to impose their idea of what is acceptable upon the rest of us. They seek to please a few rather than respect all.

You say:

"Everything has to be sanitized so that there is no chance that anyone could be offended."

I say that this is a family oriented site whose content must be appropriate for a wide a varied audience. If that is not fulfilling enough for you, then please feel free to get your cheap thrills elsewhere on the web.

But here is the bottom line for all you critics: The issue is not that we draw a line defining acceptable content here, rather the issue for you critics is where that line is drawn. Or do you propose we allow hard core porn on the site too? I doubt it.

So okay all you critics, where and how do YOU propose BadWeB draw the line on acceptable versus unacceptable content?

Critics are a dime a dozen, obviously. I've not read word one of constructive suggestion from anyone on this issue.

So please excuse me if I ignore all the whining from here on out.

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

I for one won't miss the avatars. I'd rather see pictures of ya'lls scoots in your profile than some generic non-bike related icon.

(not that I mind girlie pics or porn) : )

From time to time I show my kids this site.

If people can not respect the wishes of the administration then the administration has to draw the line.

I support your opinion on this one Blake.

Send those that object to SacBorg, I don't even waste my time going over there.

OK, here's my constructive suggestion. Bring the avatars back with a clearly defined policy. No nudity, no overt political or religous symbols. Anyone who doesn't comply will have their avatar deleted and their posting privilieges suspended.

I never saw an offensive avatar. The infamous "pink butt" was probably the closest. The full size picture was really not bad at all. A girl in pink shorts astride a Buell. She was wearing bicycling style shorts. What was the problem? I will admit that the avatar sized format was a little disturbing for some reason. But no big deal.

The fact is that BadWeatherBikers is not intended to be a site for innocent, 10 year old children. It's also a fact that a group of Buell owners, former Buell owners, potential Buell owners, etc. will have different political, social, religious, etc. view points. That's what makes life interesting!!!

Some people will be jerks and abuse the avatar policy. Sorry, but that's life. You just have to deal with it the best way you can. One option is to accept diversity and to abandon the idea that BadWeatherBikers is targeted at 10 year old children.

Blake - There were some things I liked about the avatars...but not enough for them to be worth the hassle of dealing with those of us without enough sense to choose images suitable to the site. Scrap'em.

The pink bottomed girl may have been the most famous, but not nearly the most naked.
I have three boys, 10, 13, and 15, although I know they have seen worse, I didn't like the idea of them looking over my shoulder and seeing something I wouldn't want them to see. Simple.
I read the BadWeB at work and it's perfectly OK to do so, I'm the boss, but then again, I know what my clients don't want to see when they come in my office.
When you have to police things as simple as this it gets very old saying the same thing over and over again. It also gets old being argued with about the same thing over and over.
Although I do love it when someone tries to say we're stepping on Free Speech. It makes me laugh, no one has stepped on Free Speech. Anyone has the right to start their own website with whatever content they wish to display, this is simply not their website, and we aren't the government telling them what they can and can't do on their own website.

I also liked the feature, I liked making them and giving them to my friends. New12r and I had a great time taking pictures for his profile. I had a great time making an avatar for CJXB as well. But there are some that want to argue and ruin a good time.

Go back and look again to see just who posted those, then ask the poster if I asked him to stop.
Is it in part of your BIZ???
Computers are my BIZ and when I'm not working on them I use them how I will. I'm not 100% busy at work 100% of the time. Reading the BadWeB doesn't get in the way of what I do, I've been granted a contract every quarter since the first contract was signed. My contract is very specific as to what I do, I have no set hours, only set responsibilities, I take care of my responsibilities very well thank you very little, I get the job done and then do what I please, one of the best benefits of being self-empoyeed.
Sorry Glitch practice what you preach.
I try my best and if you can point out where I've not, please point it out and I will apologize, and try to to better.
OK?

I spoke my piece once before regarding the avatars and I believe I was listened to. Apparently there are those who don't (or can't)respect the opinions of others, and feel as if something doesn't bother or offend them, it shouldn't offend anyone else. I am not a PC person but I value other people's opinions, and if a friend tells me something I say or do bothers him, I'll try not to repeat it. It's a question of common courtesy, which so many people today seem to be totally devoid of. It's not worth arguing over, IMHO. Scrap the avatars and be done with it.

Glitch You have even posted pics way back when we had a Rated R thread of topless women.
You are correct sir, it would seem times have changed a bit. I also wasn't thinking I was offending anyone back then, no one said anything to me that they were. Also, you can bet I never clicked that link with the boys around, with the avatars I didn't have that option.
But what you just got done saying is that your not busy 100% time so customers shouldn't see it anyways right.
Well because of me being on the BadWeB at work I have a couple of people coming in my office to see what's new in the world of Buell, now their boss may get upset at them, I doubt it though.
Glitch not trying to pick arguement with you.
I know, I think of you as a friend, that's why I bothered to reply in the detail I did. I'm not upset in the least.

I am truly sorry if anyone that got offended by any of my posts of semi-naked girls in the R Rated thread.

I reviewed a number of avatars and the one that I find most offensive is CJ's! It's obviously gang related. I've got a six year old and an eight year old balanced on either knee as I post this! All three of us are offended by CJ's avatar! Well, mostly just me. The kids don't understand why they are sitting on my knee while I post on BadWeatherBikers.com. It's a school night for them and why aren't they tucked in bed?

OK, I'm being glib again. I don't have any children. But I am offended by CJ's avatar! Gangs and graffiti are not the answer CJ!

Take em or leave em, makes no difference to me.

But I will say that anyone using any public bulletin board type site at work shouldnt cry about the content. Bosses or clients dont like what you are looking at? Easy way around that, stay away from the net while the boss or clients are around.

Is the previously mentioned pic of CJ the same that's in his profile? Is that truly a gang sign? According to the profile, he's a forty-five year old accountant!
I thought that graffiti art style had become somewhat mainstream, or am I just too liberal? As long as its painted on his own wall, or a virtual one, I don't understand. Its art! It makes a better back-drop for the bike than, say, a trio of garbage cans.

Thank you Bill and Dave (Glitch),

Three cheers for our brave custodians!

And a "bravo" for John for taking a stab at a constructive suggestion!

Let's review...

"OK, here's my constructive suggestion. Bring the avatars back with a clearly defined policy."
We have a clearly defined policy.

"No nudity, no overt political or religous symbols."
No religious or political symbols? heheheh. Them's okay by me. Post up yer favorite pic of a jackass riding a Buell. ; ) But isn't the no nudity part already covered by the "if one would hesitate to expose the content in the workplace or in front of children, it is not appropriate for posting on BadWeatherBikers.com" requirment, no? And merely specifying "no nudity" would give some boundary pushing types the idea that a g-string or wet t-shirt pic is acceptable. Hmmm... might the BadWeB policy be looking more well-conceived than first imagined? : ) (Thanks Court!)

"Anyone who doesn't comply will have their avatar deleted and their posting privilieges suspended. "

That's awfully harsh ain't it? ; ) And a heck of a lot of work when you gotta do it in the middle of trying to enjoy a Buell discussion board. And if you have the courtesy to send the offender an email or post a message to him, more work, more personal time gone, wasted.

Now, try to imagine all the blowback you'd have to deal with as a result. Sounds easy, but good grief look at the ordeal generated by just one jerk's refusal to change his avatar.

I appreciate your well intended try. Keep honing the idea and come back with another presentation when you think you have something that addresses the few problem areas we've found.

I too sure did enjoy some of the Avatars, especially those like CJ's, Glitch's and Reep's. Pretty cool stuff. I also missed the moto-related profile pics.

Maybe next release of the board software, we'll have the capability to load a profile pic AND an avatar.

Of course the really creative (devious?) types ought to be able to figure a way to create and post their own avatar and even do so without offending board bandwidth consumption. Hint... \imagelink{URL of your avatar here}
