I have an opportunity to take a promotion and move to the Orlando/Sanford area. What's it like out there guys? I have to imagine it costs less than Vegas...but what about ride time, weather, etc? Thanks! Nick |

Good places to ride outside of metro Orlando. Traffic around town can be pretty bad on a normal day. Orlando Harley-Davidson is no longer a Buell dealer (as of about 3 weeks ago) due to the fact that Orlando H-D not meeting dealer requirements. Closest Buell dealer is now Lakeland (about 50 miles South of Orlando). If you're looking more to the Sanford area (North Orlando) traffic is better. Good rides are closer rather than dealing with in town traffic. Real Estate has gone (and continues) to go through the roof. Example: My wife and I had our house built 10 years ago. Today the market value of the house has increased by almost 3 times what we paid for it. Cost of living is not bad, thanks to tourist dollars. Gas is cheaper than other area's of Florida because of it. Weather is a completely different story around here depending upon time of year. You can ride year around but have to watch out for summertime thunderstorms. They can get pretty mean but blow through the area fairly quickly. Central Florida is the lightning capital of North America. During the summer it is not un-common to track up to 22,000 lightning strikes in just 1 hour! Let me know if I can further help. Doug |

Thanks for the info Doug! I am probably going to do some TDY there in late April/Early May just so I can see it up close and personal. I remember the afternoon storms...everyday about 4 when we used to stay down in West Palm with my grandmother. Housing here is doing the same thing. A buddy of mine at work just paid $225,000 for a house that would have went for $100,00 a few years ago. I juct cant imagine these 1,600 a month payments that some are making out here. Gas here is hovering aroun $1.87 for the most part. The thing that I love her is all the cheap eat out places in the casinos. I can eat breakfast anywhere in the valley for under three bucks! Thanks again, and I will keep in touch! If I end up doing a long TDY there I may just truck the Buell out with me. Nick |

Well, if you do move in or around here we'll have to have a Florida gathering. FYI, check on houses out of or around Orlando. Orlando is pretty expensive to live in. The east coast has some good housing options that are not to bad in prices along with a 40-50 minute commute there. Plus, the Buell dealer here in Brevard is keeping the line and service. |

Daytona, Seminole and Lakeland are Buell dealers. Weather is great, no state income tax, you are right here for 24 hr race, 500, Bike Week, Leesburg Bike fest, Mt Dora boat fest,Biketoberfest, Orl. Magic (NBA), etc I have lived in all different parts of Florida and I like Central FL best. FWIW Frank |

Thanks Mike! I appreciate the help. I think one of my biggest hurdles now is convincing my wife that the humidity isn't all that bad. Our weather here is great most of the year, with the exception of late summer when you can get heat stroke sitting at a red light! Actually I was looking north of Sanford as well, towards Daytona even. It looks like rent there is quite a bit less than here. How's the nightlife? My wife loves to go out dancing and such, and without question the nightlife here is limitless. Thanks again, Nick |

Orlando, there's plenty of night life. The humidity isn't to bad here. In Orlando it's a little better than on the coast. |

Orlando...was there for two years. Traffic is horrible...always. It rains almost every day in the summer. Riding is year round if you can handle the odd cold, cold rain in the winter. |

Well guys...it looks more like...DAYTONA! My wife and I have been talking it over all week long. May or possibly as late as July. We are going to come out in April and start neighborhood and house shopping. If it all works out, we'll be seeing you there this summer! Nick |
