Hey fellas, does anyone know what parts you need to change a 03 XB9 throttle body with a 12? Has anyone done this? If i have to change a sh1tl0@d of gear & it's too expensive i won't. Otherwise.......?
thanks.

Its a real simple swap. You buy a 12 throttlebody, and the intake gaskets/rings and the velocity stack, transfer all of your 9 gear (TPS and injectors) over to the new throttle body. I would recommend also getting the injectors from the 12 as I believe they flow more. As Blake has pointed out, you will need to be able to compensate for the increased quantity of air since you are switching to a 4mm larger bore.

Any guess on the outcome? Is it worth it? Or is there really not enough need for that much air from the engine?

Without knowing his current mods list, IE: intended headwork, bore increase, exhaust and such its really difficult to say, on a stock motor with an exhaust I would believe it to be overkill.

Yeah i have TFI, my own race muffler, K&N & 12 airbox lid, cut. I'm gonna do heads & 1050 kit.Prob heads first cause apparently thats where these engines can make HP. They do this on the SX & 05 9's, bigger throttle body that is.

If you go and check out the Buell site you will find the '05 9's & SX use a 45mm throttle body. I already took a direct quote from the site and posted it in another thread. The 12 throttle body is 49mm. The confusion is the older throttle body on the 9's was a 2 piece unit and on the 12's its a 1 piece unit.

As easily as I pointed out. With the mods you suggested it wouldn't hurt, or atleast be a good starting point for more mods : )

My Cyclone makes 100 rwhp with a 40mm bore CV carburetor/throttle body. If you think you are going to gain a lot going to a 49m from a 45mm throttle body on an XB9, I think you may be sorely disappointed.

If anything, I'd be considering the newer one-piece 45mm throttle body assembly and accompanying ecm for the '05 XB9's.

Then again, with high performance headwork and 1050 kit, who really knows.

Whatever you do, please keep us informed of what you find along the way. : )

I have yet to see the kind of numbers I was expecting from a high performance XB9 engine.

What were you expecting?
What is considered a high performance XB9 engine?

Suppose some fool like myself has to experiment. I'm not gonna get my hopes up. But in principle (which doesn't always work)if i were to use hi flow heads, your gonna need a better flowing throttle body.Maybe i will use the 05 9 unit.Decisions, decisions! When you compare other v twins to the XB, they use twin 45mm throttle bodies. So it's a starting point i spose. Your right blake, i never will get big hp from this mod alone. but like you said, who knows! I'll have a go
