Right now I have a HJC AC-12 with the clear eyeshield. I am debating the purchase of either a smoke, dark smoke or one of the funky iridium eye shields. My question is if anyone has experience with these, I'd like to know how they do blocking the sun during the day, as well as how do they effect you vision at nite. I'm coming from an moto X helmet with goggles that had a light sensing lens, so it wasn't an issue before. Thanx! | ||

most smoked and iridium shields do a good job of cutting UV rays and glare. You do not want to get stuck wearing one after dark though. If you are going to use one and might be out after dusk be sure to take a clear shield with you. Not only is it dangerous it's illegal! | ||

You might try sticking a length of black electrical tape along the top edge of the clear shield to act as a shade. | ||

I use an iridium blue shield with shades on under it the iridium shields actually make stuff look yellow and crisper. Works good in the evening but I don't like using in the actual dark. I just suck it up and ride with the shield up if I have to ride at night. An old hardcore biker friend of mine once said" If you can't take a bug or 20 in the face you should have bought a dresser" | ||

I've got one of the Fog City hyper optiks in my Arai Astral, and I have to say it does a fantastic job of keeping my helmet from fogging at the expense of some haloing around lights sources at night (no worse than my glasses, really). But, the light sensitive part sucks - it's a little too yellow when its dark, and just turns slightly blue when it the sun is bright. I mostly keep a pair of sunglasses in my tank bag or jacket pocket. I prefer all plastic ones so there's nothing metal that could bend and get jabbed into my eye in the case of an emergency. I've got a pair of the WileyX glasses with the foam gasket around each eye that does a fine job of keeping grit out when I ride with my shield up during the summer. | ||

Dgunther - On those Wiley X's - I was looking at them online, and they look pretty good. My nearest instock dealer is about 35 miles away, so I was wondering if they were worth the trip to check out. How do the frame sizes run - I wear a small/medium helmet, so I don't have the largest of craniums, and I was wondering if the frames were large/wide or more on the narrow side. Thanks | ||

In order to avoid having to carry an extra shield and take a chance on getting it scratched/broken, I have been running a clear shield with sunglasses. I like the idea of a tinted shield, but don't want to get caught out with it after dark. The glasses aren't the most comfortable option, but they're better than riding with shield up at night because I didn't bother to pack an extra shield. Maybe I should go ahead and get a tank bag or something so I can carry a clear shield along, but I really like the look of my bike without any baggage skewing her lines. I normally just ride with a backpack if I'm out for the day, but worry a shield would get broken in there. |
