Has anyone had problems with their xb frames cracking? I'm looking to buy an xb9r soon and a buddy at work is trying to talk me out of the bike! he says frames are a big problem and they still suffer from reliablity issues. PLEASE tell me he is full of crap. I havent ridden one yet and I'm in love with this bike already!

Another classic "buddy at work" experience, huh? Has your buddy even ridden a XB Buell for more than couple of miles or even seen one ever?

Never heard of XB frame cracking issue in all these Buell and motorcycle boards that I have subscribed to.

There was a picture of a Kawi ZX 10R with a cracked frame floating around on the net, maybe your "buddy" is confused.

30thousand smiles and I see no frame issues other than it doesn't hold more gas.

The only cracked frame I know of was due to operator error into the back of a car...but I think if you can avoid doing that at 50+ you won't have any problems.

I think the guy is smoking crack. Amazing what people that are jealous of Buell's engineering marvels will say.
Buy the Buell, ride and be happy young man!

That only thing I've heard of cracking is the ZX10R frame. That's the pic that's been floating around on the net. Your buddy needs to check his sources. I for one have never heard of a Buell from cracking. I have of a Kawi.

In a magazine article (if I find it I'll post the link) their test XB did suffer a cracked engine mount, but that is a whole different story than the frame cracking. Obviously not a widespread problem or we'd be hearing a whole lot more about it.

I've heard of only a couple engine mounts breaking. I'm pretty sure it's from slamming the front down after wheelies. I've jumped mine multiple times and had no trouble with it at all.

Of all things, the frame cracking?!?! The frame is about the beefiest I've ever seen on any bike.

M1, you been stadiumX'ing your bike???

And the ZX10R's had a recall for the front wheels breaking, too... Seems the Jap bikes might be getting too light for their own good...

Not exactly : ). I have a wash in the road leading to my house. It's paved and about 25' wide and about 5' deep. If I hit it at about 65-70 I can get about 10-14" of air and about 10' or so distance. No broken front motor mount here...

I have to agree with Joele...

Of all the things a nimwit could talk 5hit about, the FRAME!?

NIMROD. I have no education in engineering but my eyes, some common sense, and a 2 year history on this board tell me that the frame is the last thing I'd worry about!

OH, a hem. Enjoy your Buell. I DO!

The only thing resembling crack is the stuff your friend is smoking.

The XB's are rock solid.

No XB frame has ever cracked.

Please hand that to your buddy. If he can not understand those 6 words have him call me.

Tell him that you've elected to purchase what is arguably the most reliable motorcycle available in the world at this time.

Congratulations. Get on the Buell and ride as far from your "old" friends as possible.

If you really want a bike with a frame that cracks try a Hyabusa I believe they do it all the time.....only the subframe though. You could also try an original K1 750 Honda, the frame doesn't actually crack it just feels that way.

The only cracked XB frames I've seen pictures of were the results of hitting deer, cars, trucks, trees, fence posts, stuff like that. I'm sure the factory "cracked" a few on purpose in their testing, but that's a good thing.

The factory TRIED over 400 times in confirming that a Mexican import was as good as thought.

I doubt you've seen one cracked as a result of hitting a deer. I'd be willing to bet that what you saw was a neatly separated honeycomb looking head section.

What the XB does in an accident is no accident.

From the first moment The Red Headed Astronaut launched that M-2 toward the sky in front of the Showa engineers at the secret test track, the less educated among us came to have an elevated respect of the role science, in concert with a Berkley education, plays in compensating for our own lack of skill/stupidity.

I doubt you could EVER (not seldom, but EVER) crack an XB frame in service.

Just my personal opinion...

Hmmm.. To the best of my knowledge..
Honda Gold Wings had a problem with frames cracking from lousy welds (the good news is all those bikes effected got a nice cosmetic fix). And I've heard about the Kawi and 'Busa problems as well.

I believe that's about it. Oh, and somewhere (I think it was here) I saw a picture of an XB that had been in a high speed altercation with a fire hydrant. The frame did not crack. The fuel did not spill. The engine went MIA, the forks separated from the triple tree, the bike was a total loss.. But the frame only dented.

As Anon. said. It's NEVER happened.

Now, have your 'friend' sit down, shut up, and eat a baloney sandwich while you take your new Buell out and get 'Grin-itous'!

Later,

There's a decent chance that Anony's last name is mmmmmmm, and almost a 100% chance that they at least mmmmmmm together.
