Ok, so I spilled some fuel on the air box cover and it's etched in places I can't scrub all that well, like between the letters. I'm thinking of removing the letters and polishing with Novus 2 - then having a pro shoot a couple of coats of clear. Thoughts? |

I have a sacrificial box (I did the same thing you did) that I am willing to use for testing for various sealers. A friendly dealer here on the board gave me a scratched spare they had laying around. You can get down between the letters with the novus to a degree that makes the damage "not that obvious". Use Q-tips, folded rags pressed in with small dowel rods, etc. Take the airbox off, put on a good movie, and spend two hours watching the movie and putzing around cleaning the airbox cover with novus 3 and 2. Follow it up with the Harley sealer glaze. I think I would avoid the clear coat. The stock cover can always be cleaned up with the Novus, it may just take a while. If clear coat starts to peel, the cover is toast. If *anyone* has any "miracle sealer" type stuff, send me some and I will see if it will make a translucid airbox cover fuel proof. I tried a half dozen or so different waxes / sealers I had around here, and the best was the Harley Plastic Sealer Glaze. Somebody mentioned a heavy duty marine wax, I have not been able to find it. Again, if anyone has any stuff they would be willing to put in a small container and send me, I will be happy to run the "gas test" and see how it works. The Harley sealer glaze is not perfect, but does help signifcantly. |
