The other day, after an extended (10 minute or so) run at well over a hundred mph, the bike didn't want to idle down. It hovered around 2000 rpm and then after I let the clutch out a little and pulled it back in it settled down. It din't do this again, but I did notice a few times that the "rev down" was a little slower than it usually is. I was thinking maybe an intake leak, but because it wasn't a constant problem I sort of ruled that out. Any suggestions? I have the idle set just above 1000. I may just change the intake seals while I have the engine rotated down just for good measure. Thanks, Nick |

Hey dude, You just need to turn your idle down a notch. |

That simple huh? Cool! I'll give it a shot! Thanks |

Yeah, that was the cure for myself and others I've talked to that had the exact same symptom. |

Had the same problem, mind would hover around 1400-1600 RPMS. I turned my down to 1050 and it idles niiiice now. |

Don't go too low either! 1050 is just about perfect. |

I'll try to hit that 1050 mark and see what happens. After I modded my pipe, the idle may have been a bit lower than that because the thing would take this great big pause sometimes like it was taking a deep breath at idle. It sounded like it was going to quit and then it would pick right back up into it's nice lopey idle. Thanks guys! |

I don't think your idle setting has anything to do with it. I think it's the ECM's AFV setting. When I do track days, running the bike hard, in open loop all day, the thing will barely run and idle. But open up the throttle and it gives you all you want. A quick ride to the grocery store at a nice, even pace to let the ECM recalibrate and all's well. I dunno why it does this, mebbe someone else does and can chime in. |

The ECM relearns to give you optimum cpnditions for your riding situation. Running it hard and keeping it above 3500 at a trackday sets the AFV more aggressive. To reset for everyday riding a nice easy ride is whats needed. |

Based on my experience with tinkering idle, when it hangs, the idle is always on the high side, going over 1050. Confirmed my idle with TechnoResearch diagnostic tool because the tach on the bike is not precise. |

Idle just a tad too high from my experience. xbolt12 |

vegas, i have a similar problem.start bike, it idles then drops rpm like its gonna stall then picks up again.if i rev it after rpm's drop, it goes to stall! i put it down to tps reset cause i have just installed tfi & in turn changed fuel curve so tps is workin off "old" fuel curve. not 100% sure yet. beau |

i put it down to tps reset Throttle Position Sensor Unless you moved the sensor, the ECM still knows where Zero is. When you have the TPS reset all you are doing is making sure the ECM knows when the throttle is closed. I doubt this is what you are needing. Sounds to me like the TFI is making your bike run too rich at low RPMs. Could be wrong though, I was wrong once before (OK twice) |

Hey guys.. thanks again for all the feedback. I also found out last night that I have an intake leak. I was spraying some degreaser in the area of the intake while the bike was at idle. It started smoking and almost shut down. I am guessing the leak combined with a maladjusted idle would for sure produce the symptoms at hand. Thanks again! Nick |

Intake leak very bad. I holed a piston on my 1998 S1W due to a intake leak. Glad you found it. Good luck. |

If I ride to Vegas will show me where you can ride over 100mph for 10 min? |

12r.. you bet I will! We have a stretch about 40 miles oustide of town that is virtually "unoccupied" with the exception of the sportbike crowd on the weekends. I actually got bored for a while when trying to catch up with my buddies on their ricers! Nick |

Budo: I remmbered you saying that a while back. Hence the bike being parked until MOnday when I will drive it gingerly to the shop I have rented. Thanks for the reminder |
