>>> What have you done but post lies and falsehoods?

The sad thing about that line is that you believe it, so there's no point in debating it.

>>> I'd have to say get off your ass and help.

I'd love to. I can't even afford the gas to get down there. You are 60 miles away, I'm thousands. It makes a difference. I do what I can to help my community, which isn't much, but I try.

Patrick, thanks for the support. I too look forward to a honest report and retrospective on FEMAs response. If I'm wrong, I will absolutely come on this forum and admit to it.

Some things are simple. Others complex.

Simple facts are an organization like FEMA is going to have to preposition emergency supplies scattered around, and has limited resources. It's a huge pie, but a very thin slice. Doesn't matter for our purpose here about the Big Picture of D.C. spending, FEMA has it's Billions and has to ask for more when needed.

We, as a society, learned a lot from hurricane Katrina.

One was a reminder that emergency supplies in a warehouse in the disaster zone are gone. Scattered means redundancy and robustness.

Transportation is a huge problem, and physics says cost & volume vary. Best is ships, but you need a working port, and then transport from there. Rail is next, then trucks. Both need serious infrastructure. Helicopter is the far end of that list. But vital in the early stages where you pluck people out of danger and drop supplies.

Bottom line is God Bless America and our Citizen Responders. Redneck Brigade is a long time joke about the best folk on Earth.

True, the Turkish version runs into disasters with scooters ( Earthquake country ) and Thai heroes with those cool long tails, etc. Here? Bass boats and "off road toys" that suddenly become the most important immediate life savers.

Anecdotal, but true, my late Uncle Rusty sold early ATVs, ( Trackster ) when they were rich people toys & serious wilderness tools. ( his biggest customers were mining companies ) They had a killer blizzard in the Great Plains when I young, and my Uncles went out and dug people out of cars trapped in the highway. For days. It was them, some loons with Skidoos, and the National Guard with APCs, ( after they dug themselves out and made it to the bases ) that went out in blinding snow to rescue people.

It's the Citizen heroes who are there, willing, and equipped to help, that are ALWAYS the first out in the most critical time.

Well. On the lighter side of things.
The cable is back up, no.power though.
We were able to get the propane truck up so the generator is up and going.
I'm just hoping they can still get water.
They have a well 850 down but they're told to get it tested asap. The water table has been spoiled.
Just think of my folks, they're near Biltmore.
They didn't even see what was past the house.
They got cable Friday and got to see the news.
I damn near lost all my family in one fell swoop.
My family in Marion are pretty much homeless.
My brother nephew niece and her one year old are hold up at the folks.
I am blessed.
As far as what's going on and what's not going on.
It's all true.
It's all false.
It's an fing war zone nightmare up there.
Treat all your news with a grain of salt, and remember in a war zone there's what you call the fog of war.
I've been up there as often as I can.
I'm old and broken but I volunteer sorting out supplies.
I still can sharpen chains better than new.
I can't sit by and not get my hands dirty doing something for my people.
If you can, give, if you can't, at least pray.

Thank you for the update Glitch!

Praying is one thing I can do, have been doing, and will continue to do.

I am glad your folks survived, and are hanging in there despite the devastation. I will pray for your folks and family.

I believe when you say it's a warzone, and that the fog of it all is intense. I hope the true story emerges in time, and deficiencies are addressed.

Like others have said, it is the private citizen, giving of themselves that are the unsung heroes of any disaster. I'm glad you are able to be of help despite your limitations, and pray your body is able to rest and recover when you sleep.

Be well, and keep on keeping on.

I've been to stop
Now that I have, I can see why.
It's been a hard row to hoe.
The Asheville area is been a top priority with all the hospitals and retirement homes and such. Not to mention gotta keep them tourist money coming in. Around the Fletcher area you still have to keep an eye out for downed lines.
Mama and Daddy are taking it all in stride.
They're amazing.
