02 M2 cyclone I’m still ironing out issues with my m2. It has a catch can that needs to be drained every 60 miles or it spews oil on my boots and pants. If I run breather back into my force winder air filter will that effect the tune at all? Bike is running real well. Thanks | ||

That sounds like a lot of oil. Condition is caused by pressure in the crank case. Perhaps compression is down because of worn piston rings which is causing loss of pressure into the crank case. recommend a compression check and pulling the covers off the heads and check the condition of the umbrella valves. Better yet, just replace them. They are 18 years old by now. What also may help is to slightly enlarge the drain hole which is next to that umbrella valve. Allows for that oil spray to drain back to the motor quicker. | ||

Are you runnin a different carb or breather than stock? these motors are head breathers and this is exactly what will happen if you have a clog. Also the rocker box gaskets will weep from pressure. the chrome crossover tube is notorious for causing this, the cylinders fight each other, you need 2 separate lines to the back of the air box.I would also look at the scavenging system because if some numbnuts used any kind of goop sealant inside its now gunkin up that system. Read your factory service manual.... | ||

Yes carb is a mikuni 42 with a force wind filter. Breather line was cut and a rubber hose added to run to catch can. Sorry I should have pictures can’t do it. Thanks David | ||

I ran lines and a catch can from my heads on my X1 to AVOID oil to the intake: better air in and less fouling on the plugs and valves. (Message edited by Mstrfrz on August 10, 2020) | ||

Hi all pretty quiet on here! Nothing else to do so back to the m2. Don’t think it’s a compression problem so I’m going to try the umbrella valves. My question is can I get the rocker boxes off with motor still in frame? Thanks David | ||

Yes you can. To get the rear cam cover off requires an extremely short Allen wrench for the Right, Rear bolt. Best tool is from Motion Pro; Rocker Box Wrench 3/16" for HD; https://www.motionpro.com/product/08-0220 Also note the front cam cover may not be able to clear the front isolator bracket. Do not take that bracket off! If it does hang on the Left Front side, just file off a bit of the cover where it is hitting the bracket. Will not need to remove much at all. Before installing the new umbrella valves, do yourself a favor and open the small drain hole near the umbrella valve, one drill size larger. This will help more oil to drain back into the motor. | ||

I should have said, that plate comes out. Valve cover, then butterfly valve plate, then rocker arm plate, then head, (not the official names I suspect). Drill while it is out of the motor. | ||

Good morning back at the m2 blow by issue. Took bike to mechanic who did compression test and leak down test. Compression is 200/side and leak down was 7% on both. Mechanic disconnected catch can and ran breather line to rear of bike. Now another month till I can ride. Umbrella valves were changed does anybody have any other ideas? 1250 millennium big bore kit 42 mikuni. Thanks David |
