what are those fairing fasteners called that go under the Cyclone seat? I can't remember what they looked like but they really pissed me off one day because they kept falling through the hole when I tried to bold down my fairing. I wasn't in the mood and smashed the fairing. I was going to just go without the fairing and hide all the electronics but I recently got a bunch of cyclone parts that included a slightly broken fairing. I fixed the front mount that goes over the top of the frame with some aluminum sheet and marine expoxy. that area seems to be a weak link in these fairings. But now that I did all this work I decided that I'm no going to smash this one. Also, the bike has been sitting ever since I smashed the old one and I want to get it back on the road if for no other reason than to have a backup vehicle when my pos car breaks down. no insurance on motorcycles in Florida! so I don't have to keep it insured... just plates and go. | ||

the fairing is fixed and finally painted. the left front frame mount was totally broken off. I fixed it with aluminum sheet metal and marine epoxy. this fairing was orange but then the previous owner painted half of it with flat black and then pin-stripped it. it was super ugly... what a PITA it was.   | ||

here's the backside of the fairing fix so you can see how i did it. this is the second fairing that i've owed with the same broken fairing mount so i'm guessing that it's a common problem. I cut the aluminum sheet and bended it to match the fairing and curved the top part to mount on the frame tube. I roughed the surfaces then applied marine epoxy (available on ebay). I love this stuff... I then clamped it overnight. I then used some insulation tape I had laying around -that just happened to be the same width and thickness that the factory used- on the underside of the curved part. The fit is excellent. The repair came out great! you won't even notice it when it's on the bike. I've had good luck with my S1 tail fairing, but my front fairing did break 2 times. Can't blame the fairing for that though, and I've since learned to put the disk lock on the rear wheel instead of the front wheel.  | ||

thanks... yeah, you can't tell that this part of the fairing was totally gone. that marine epoxy is great stuff. | ||

I use regular 2 part epoxy all the time, but I've never tried marine epoxy. Will it dry under water? or is normal epoxy just not really waterproof? or what's the benefit to the marine epoxy? | ||

i'm sure it will dry under water but I like it because it sticks to anything and sands easily. you can apply it with a spreader because it's not runny like JB Weld. I used it to fill a small rust hole on my car. I also used it long ago on an 86 Trans Am rubber bumper that was damaged. the stuff is incredible... if I need a hard epoxy I'll use JB Weld. | ||

I'm still excited from when I discovered over a year ago that they make epoxy that doesn't smell. Any time I needed it I went to buy the 2 part epoxy from lowes/home depot, then just accepted that my whole house was gonna stink for a day any time I glued anything. I'd try to find as many things to glue all at the same time to avoid the smell. Then I ordered a different epoxy online, and it has no smell to it at all. I couldn't believe it. | ||
