I've been riding my CityX in the cold and damp. I've been usin g some 'S100' from the shop that's meant to stop corrosion. It doesn't. Lots of corroded bits. OK, I can probably replace them when summer comes (just bolts and fastners), but the exhaust is visible rusty, not good at all! I may even go back to the shop, it shouldn't happen surely! The bolts I can live with for now. Also, the wheel baring sleves have a coat of rust round them which is a worry. I was rather hoping with all the care and attention the bike got and Buells reputation for build quality (being good) that it might have lasted longer than 8 weeks! | ||

...the exhaust is a fairly frequent problem - at least on the earlier race cans. I had mine ceramic-coated. Looked better and no more rusting. ...the S100 might prevent rust, but there's nothing on the amrket that will be able to stop all kinds of corrosion, and most of the fasteners on the XBs end up corroding from the different metals interacting. Not much that can be done about it, short of staying out of the rain and/or always drying the bike off thoroughly afterwards. Not exactly how most people want to spend their time. As for the wheel bearings - don't worry about it. There's no way in hell they'll rust enough to be a problem before they're due to be replaced anyways. Please note - 'build quality' (which is EXCELLENT on the XBs) has NOTHING to do with corrosion. Absolutely nothing. Corrosion is due to a myriad of factors, mostly environmental, but whether or not a bolt was torqued down properly or the casting on your cylinders is within tolerances doesn't impact that at all. | ||

If there is corrosion and you have looked after the bike I would ask for the said parts to be replaced under warranty. I know people that have done this on other makes of bikes. At the end of the day the bike should shouldn't start rusting so quickly. Still I would wait until the start of the summer now. Thats if we get a summer next year. Norrie. | ||

We now have replacement stainless steel bolt kits for the XB's to alleviate some of the 'furry bolts' syndrome. Other than that I have to agree with Darthane above, any bike will corrode if ridden during inclement weather (take a peek under the plastic of some of the expensive Jap bikes, it looks like a shipwreck!). All you can do is your best to try to prevent it. | ||

I've found that a good rinse after riding rids the bike of the salt film that gets on bikes in my area. Also a good blower will get most water off the bike after the rinse. Since I purchased a blower my corroded fasteners have been fewer, which makes me much happier. | ||

I have found that a short ride along with a quick wipe down dries things out rather than a blower which may push moisture into areas where is does not belong. I also use vasoline to protect areas that collect water. It is easy to clean up from time to time and will not allow corrosion. | ||

Tom, You are certainly correct about pushing water into places it doesn't belong. It was my assumption that most people reading this posting would know that a good blow job is the result of carefully controlling the blowers action. The vasoline thing appears to have possibilities as well. Thanks Al | ||

Evil_twin, I forgot to insert the little smiley face at the end of that post if that answers your question. As far as Daytona goes I think I will eventually get used to life in the slow lane, the police seem intent on that part anyway. (I've never seen so many cops with nothing to do in my life) The weather will take some time to get used to compared with Ft. Lauderdale by the way which is really in Florida. I think these guys installed fake palm trees to fool the tourists into thinking that it is Florida here as well. What money?  Al We just need more Buellers here, that's all...... | ||
