I was riding my buell 1125r not soo long ago. My voltage drop to 12.2, engine overheated to 199'f, and a burning metal smell coming from the stator case. I knew at that point my stator gave out. I proceeded the stator and rotor upgrade and during the oil drain I notice metal shavings and chunk. The saving were all over. Inside the strainer, both oil drains, and inside the stator case. I also notice the plastic cover around the starter gear and camshaft chain guard melted. Also, I found out the rotor has been previously drilled, yet the stator still burn out. I still haven't check the camshaft area of the rear cylinder as this is my next step. Any tips on how to remove the balancer because one bolt is behind that gear for the plastic cover.

Hate to say it but from your description of the metal in the oil I would be looking for a replacement engine.
