Alcohol, adultery, and Country Clubs. The 50s actually had Male White Privilege, in select places. But it also had Civil Rights movement, activists who went and registered the oppressed by the Klan Party to vote. Some were murdered for that. Hugh Hefner was publishing great fiction, subversive reporting, philosophy, and pictures of wholesome women without clothes on. ( that the Playboy Lifestyle requires great wealth was a Feature. Who didn't want a swimming pool with a private grotto to get laid in? ) As the advertisements in Rollerball said, "You'll dream you are an Executive!". What the Hippies missed was the responsibility side. They were told their rights were given by God, not by government. But if you don't believe in the old religion, that doesn't make sense. Or you think the rights were free. Or worse, Owed you. Nope. The Great Stan Lee phrased the real deal of Citizenship best, in Spider-Man comics. We have Freedom because responsible adults fight for it. Freedom is great, but responsibility is what earns it. Free love without responsibility leads to heart break, heartlessness, poverty and ruined lives. The Pill freed women from consequences only partly. The old morality may have been obsolescent, and certainly was often a cloak that immoral people wrapped themselves in... hypocritical virtue signalling isn't a New thing. That was long ago. The Solar system is billions of miles away from there. It's different today. Where the cultural revolution in the West more than half a century ago was half right, and at least offered the promise of getting laid, I don't see the positive side on today's revolts against the Establishment. Almost all has been regressive hate speech, dividing us to break us. Racist, religious, sexist, classist, hatred. And instead of getting me laid, it's apparently to get old rich perverts access to our children. Just like the Liberals were overrun, their position of respectable freedom & tolerance appropriated by the Regressive Leftists, the Gay freedom movement was overrun by the Pedos & Desperately Unhappy. In a real sense, the freedom and respect trend peaked with 2 tv shows. Will & Grace gave us the comedy of equality of difficulty getting a good partner, ( and the pain of unrealistic expectations ) & Queer Eye gave the cliche of good taste from artistic folk. That began it's crash and burn with Bill Clinton, who's "solution" to gay rights and equality was to keep it criminal and hated, but lie about sex, which was his personal solution to being a cheating scum bag. ( that his marriage had become a train wreck and his wife an ambitious monster riding him like a mule may offer understanding, but not an excuse ) Then Barry the alleged closeted gay, religiously communist apostate, and dedicated racist divider, actually "fixed" the Gay Military Problem by ordering equality. Which would have been, in retrospect, his greatest achievement as President. Except. Instead of freedom and responsibility... Instead of tolerance and equality, the fringe Demanded Approval and Privilege. And the Great Divider made intolerance and informing and mandatory confessions and mandatory affirmation the New Normal. Regression from freedom to tyranny. The American Way to the Soviet Model. A buddy often says, "I'll respect your delusions, but I don't share them." But that's not obedient Enough, today.
