'99 M2, 100% stock. Started having some issues getting the gas cap to release last year. Latch turns but the inner seal or ears don't seem to be letting go. Tried filing the plastic/ABS? plastic seal to loosen it up a bit and maybe helped, but I'm always afraid I'll get out on the road and not be able to get the cap off. I vaguely remember rambling thru the archives while ago and reading something regarding a very nice replacement cap--maybe billet?--being offered by a BWB member. I did a quick search--and I readily admit that my Google-fu is not strong--and returned almost 90 threads but nothing that looked on topic. Can anyone point me to the info (that I think I remember reading) regarding a replacement cap? Thx! |

1. The cap does not need to be tight, just snug. Loosen the nut at the bottom so the cap fits snug not tight. 2. Good Viton O-ring. Easy to find at ebay, Fastenal, and others. 3. File more of the plastic off, rounding the catch area. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/752659.html?1417769194 purpony makes them; http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/858983.html?1598113602 http://www.mcmoto-worx.com/ aero 400 European replacements; https://www.ukbeg.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=21 459 |
