Hey All Looking for recommendations on a good gasket set for my 2000 S3 The Rear Base gasket as well as Rear Rocker box has a weep to them and the Base is only getting worse. Hopefully I can make it through the summer but want to have my ducks in a row and get all the parts I need together so I can do it all at once. I already got a set of XB rocker box covers to upgrade while its all apart. Anything else I should do? I am trying to not get to much "project creep" and go nuts. The bike has about 35K on it so I am thinking at Minimum to have the heads done while they are off but then that makes me want to look for XB or Thunderstorm heads for it. ...Then a Cam....and so on. Trying to not get to carried away. I love the bike and it rides great. I don't want to go nuts and make it Unreliable but I cant help but not thinking of freshening it up a bit while I have it apart. Side note. This is my first Tuber and I am kicking myself for not getting one sooner. This thing is a blast to ride. |

You should check the gasket kits at Hammerperformance website. Im on a Liquid Diet today so Ill tell you what I did. Got this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GVAH42/ref=p px_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .030 " head gasket $20 Rocker lockers. Mine were solid but good insurance. Bought several things from Saint Paul Buell like the thicker intake seals and Exh Seals because the cometics are for sportster. I reused my pot metal push rod bases. No Leaks after about 8 heat cycles. I removed the valves and cleaned the seats with 400 or 600 grit lapping compound. I used Oil Eater degreaser to get the carbon off heads. Our Exh Valves are coated so be carfull what you take off /disolve there. I only had some light pitting on the intake valve that I cleaned up most of it. Both valves were actually working and sealing 100 percent. So I didnt get head work done. Its not needed I suspect until around 80000 or everything time. You can still get the cyl and pistons from that discontinued parts place...if they are back from vacation. Yeah your cyl will be out of spec at 35k. Crank sensor from Standard and other little things around the right side and under the motor. Around 1000 bucks. Starts and runs like a new bike now. I was going to get the 1275 kit but for 10 HP... I skipped that $1000 bill. Some Builders helpers here K and W Copper gasket spray for insurance on base gaskets. None on Head Gaskets. Loctite SF 790 Gasket remover for base. You can try paint stripper too. https://www.emisupply.com/ Contains the good shit. Meth chloride (Message edited by victory on June 09, 2022) |

Chances are your cylinders are on their way out if the base gaskets are leaking. |

Thanks Victory I was also thinking the same thing about the 1275 Kit.... a lot of coin for 10hp BUT if my Jugs and pistons are out of spec once its apart I will have to re-evaluate that decision. I was looking at Hammer performance for some of there other stuff. It looks like a need a 2007+ rocker box kit to use the XB rockers. I think TwinMotorcycles had an intake gasket set up that switched to O-Rings. Way less prone to leaks. All good info. Now to start making a pile of parts. |

I have a 1250 kit on my X1, a 1250 kit on my S1 and my dad has a 1275 kit on his M2. All Hammer Performance. On paper the gains might not seem like much, but they all feel viciously quick after the upgrade. Hammer Performance is also great to work with. Very helpful guys and the kits are prepped and shipped very well. For us they made it across the ocean without issue. |

I have used Cometic gaskets sets in the past with good luck, and you should already have Thunderstorm heads on that bike. |

To answer for BLKs1, Thunderstorm heads are painted black. |

Cometic here as well. Should you choose to go that route, Hammer sells gasket sets depending on the kit you buy that include everything you need. |

I prefer Genuine James Gaskets. Use Cometic if Unable to find Genuine James when needed. |

Yea that's a positive. Now will figure out if I clean then up myself or send them for a Port/Polish while off. I was really leaning toward XB heads over Thunderstorms but Now that I have a set and I dont have to deal with the front motor mount issue with XB's, I will probably stay with what I have. |
