I'm definitely going to have to make it a flying trip as my daughter is coming to France on a school trip & I promised I'd meet them to be one of the parent helpers on the trip. Family comes first as I'm sure you'll all agree. They arrive in France on Monday the 6th so I'll have to fly back Sun 5th latest. I'll aim to come out a couple of days early so it's not too much of a rush. As for wheels I'm quite happy to ride/drive just about anything, If I can get a few rides in I'm happy driving a chase vehicle (as long as it's got a radar detector) or whatever. As I'll be flying I won't be bringing camping gear, which changes nothing as I don't do camping, (it's too intense) So a motel or bunkroom for me! I don't know if I can contain the excitement until the end of May. I'm really looking forward to seeing you all, some of you again & some for the first time. It's just a pain there's so much water in the way or I'd put the bike in a trailer & set the cruise control for warp factor 9. |

So far good news from the Tail of the Dragon page. There are no major events planned in that area for the week of May 30th. I'm about 90% for that week. Tentative plan is leave Chicagoland area on Saturday, May 28th. If I ride, I'd like to find a "scenic" route there. Might as well take it easy getting there and then bomb back for the Homecoming. Anyone have a good route from Chicago? Roger? Bomber? Brent? |

Works for me Bill! If you ever see the movie 'Bad Santa', make sure you pay attention to the wooden pickle comments... Are you going to smuggle more Screech over? My supply is running low. |

I saw a post in the General Discussion Board from DaveS saying the "Homecoming" is scheduled for June 1-5. That being said...let's start moving forward on this trip. I've tentatively mapped out a backroads (state roads, mostly 2 lane) from just outside of Gary, IN to Fontana Village, NC. I'm not sure about the milage yet but it will be a solid 2 days of riding. I figured interstates on the return trip. Where does everyone want to stay? Camp, hotel, cottage or other (I found a houseboat for rent). Here's a proposal for a schedule: May 28th: Depart Chicago area May 29th: Arrive in Fontana Village May 30-31: Explore Gap & surrounding area June 1: Depart mid-day June 2: Arrive for homecoming June 3-4: Kick tires and ride Kettle Moraine June 5: Road America I don't think I can depart from Chicago on Friday night. We're planning on leaving this area on Friday to spend the night in Chicago area. That's all I have for now. Dennis |

The whole shebang!!! There are 2 confirmed already (myself & Palerider). I get first choice of bedrooms (being the prick that I am ). As of now, I was figuring that Newfie, Grumpy & Roger would stay there as well. That would leave room for one (own bed ) or two more people (if someone didn't mind sharing a double bed). From my email correspondence with the rental agent, it's only about 10-15 minutes from Fontana Village. The house overlooks Fontana Lake. I'm waiting for the reservation form to get the final confirmation. There are other rentals available in the area. I found this house at Fontana Area Rentals Dennis |

Fine better bring a tent for the night in chicago I never said where I was staying in Chicago. I have a couple of young female friends that would love to have me visit. Oh , I hope my wife doesn't read this. Does anybody have a broblem camping one night, i know of a great camp ground about 50 miles north of Cinncy If we don't have a sag wagon, I'm not camping anywhere. No need to bring the gear for 1 night. Need any cash D Only $125 for deposit. I think I can cover that. I may be off line for a few days. Feel free to contact me on my cell (920-737-8020) Dennis |

Hear you go guys, looks like it will be cooler than Newfoundland last year: http://www.weather.com/activities/travel/vacationplanner/weather/climo-monthly-g raph.html?locid=USNC0240 This will give you a fair idea of waht the temps and rain will be like, however i would bring a rain suit, its rain almost every time i have been there, usually in the morning, and last year it rained every day i was there Oh and Dennis, theres always floor space at my place or i am sure John would be happy to put you up in a bed if you like(my house is way tiny, but it is chicago after all) and if your freinds dont have a garage, let me know so i can clear some space I think if we leave early enuff on saturday, we should be able to make Fontana before dark, its about 650 miles from chicago to Fontana village, little more on back roads, and a lot more if you get lost(like i did last year) and you do not want to do the dragon in the dark if you dont have to, and in the dark and rain, well its even less fun, but it will teach you a thing or 2 R |

Hey Grumpy, I was watching the local news tonight and they are finally opening up the Resorts out near Marble Mountain. There is a british airline that will be flying into DEER LAKE once a week offering cheap rates. You wanna buy a cheap bike here on the island and fly into DEER LAKE??????? We can spend a couple days on the other side of the island. |
