Printed a cover for the ignition on an Artillery Sidewinder X2. I drew the file myself, using the star wars font. Filament is Kodak PLA+

I'm thinking of adding some projections on the inside so the cover can rest solidly on the studs that hold the ignition module. For now, there's an airgap and the cover is flexed inwards a little bit

And in case anyone is wondering, the 'muffler' is indeed a 1-lb propane cylinder with some odd bits added up front to 'do things' to the exhaust flow. A leftover part I made for an XL250

I could draw up other versions for custom orders. But I'm not sure if that's what I want to be doing. There's a lot of chinese timing covers out there made from cast aluminum which would be more durable. And I have too many projects

I can upload to print shops that can print in bronze or steel, but then the price goes way up! I think I'd rather just inspire someone to get into the 3D printing space and keep this as 'open hardware'

I'm drawing the part files in Fusion360, which has a free version. The free version does everything the full license would do as far as just getting something whipped-out for a printer

The main limits are only being able to have 10 projects open at a time, and minimal support options. You can archive a project in order to create an 11th or more, and it appears that there's no limit to how many archived files I can have. That's only an issue if I want to collaborate on a file with another person in a design team, and each time you archive a file you get a warning that your copy of the file wont match-up with other versions. Being that it's just me doing the drawing, I can ignore that and it's basically unlimited for what I'm using the software for

Fusion360 is cloud-based. All of the project files are hosted on servers based in the US. The software belongs to Autodesk, an american company. So for all the college students who think that Solidworks is the best, keep in mind Solidworks is owned by Daussault Aviation, the premier aerospace company in France who's more concerned with the french military & civilian economy

Besides, a full license of Solidworks is $5000, and the same kind of license in Fusion360 is just $500 - per machine

As for how to print, I would recommend: https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/ugpmp 3/purchase_advice_megathread_may_2022/

The reddit community seems to be the best single location on the web to get into 3D printing

There's printers at all price points, from $20 uo to $1000's

What I got was this: https://artillery3d.shop/products/artillery-sidewi nder-x2-sw-x2-3d-printer

The printer shipped from a warehouse in Los Angeles
