I found a good S3 fairing which i would like to mount on my X1. Question is: can I keep the original the X1 dash inside the S3 fairing? I just want a plug and play solution just like my 1125CR with the R fairing, the CR instrument dash just fit perfectly inside the fairing without touching anything while turning. |

I don't think you can. The gauges & idiot lights are the same but the panel is not. I went the other way, put X1 dash, bikini fairing and round headlight on my S3. I'd never go back to the S3 arrangement. |

On the X1, the gauges are mounted to the forks/handlebar and rotate when you turn. On the S3, the fairing/gauge cluster are mounted to the frame, are stationary and do not rotate when you turn. The question is, will the rotating X1 gauges hit the stationary S3 fairing? Hey, if you do this, let us know! |

Will the S3 fairing mount bolt onto the X1 frame? I didn't assume the X1 would even have the mounts welded to the front of the X1 frame, but I looked at some pictures of both, and surprisingly the X1 frame does have tabs welded there. I'm not sure why.... I do remember seeing a fairing that was made to go on the X1, I'm not sure if that was a factory accessory and that's why the X1 frame was made that way, or if it was aftermarket and the tabs were put there for another reason. The X1 tabs don't look as robust as the S3 mounts did, but it looks like they'd still work. Either way, if you were having clearance issues with the gauges, you could always try to make an adapter plate that mounts to the frame, then mount the fairing mount to that, you could space it out an inch or two, or move it up slightly if you needed, to give yourself clearance for your gauges. Another option would be to try to find(or make) a mounting plate like the M2s used, where both gauges were mounted next to each other, instead of with one higher than the other. That would probably give you a little extra clearance as well. In case you've never seen it, this is the fairing that was available for the X1. Looks like the stock gauges fit in it fine. https://daviddreesen.blogspot.com/2014/01/buell-x1-lightning.html
For reference, it's definitely possible to fit the fairing onto an X1, based on this picture, but that bike looks pretty modified, so no idea what the chances are that it still has the stock gauges and mount. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/47623/718150.html?1375927796
and just for random ideas, there's even this X1 with an XBR fairing on the front, but it does look like the gauges have been remounted to be lower. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/680465.html?1337426883

After looking around more, it looks like the blue fairing was made by Eurocomponents, so not an official Buell part, so I'm still very curious why the X1 frame has those tabs mounted. Maybe Court or someone knows something about them. |

I think I actually bought some S1 parts from the man who owned that faired X1. That's a Dutch house and I think I stood on that driveway last summer. Not a bad look. Same goes for that silver X1. I always thought it's remarkable that despite the differences in style between the XB and tube frame models, the design language is actually so coherent or well thought out that you can swap out components and still end up with something that looks really decent, in a lot of cases good enough that it could have come from the factory looking like that. |

Does anyone have a detailed list of all the parts you need to fit a X1 dash and flyscreen on a 2001 S3? I am thinking the smaller flyscreen is the look I want for my S3. I am guessing 2000 or newer X1 parts? Fork ears, headlight ass’y, dash and ?? I see that there is someone making billet dash panels on EBay and was considering incorporating the clock. |

I never saw a fairing that was made to fit an X-1. I ended up putting a S3 fairing on and had to change the hole front gauge panel. It took adding about a foot of wire to each existing wire My X-3 is a red race stripe and I did this in 2000. |

Great looking bike. I bet mounting that fairing was nothing compared to rebuilding your entire bike with the headers/cams/pushrods/shock/drivebelt on the left side. |

I was able to get a few more photos of my S fairing on my X1. However, my bike is under repair per another post at this time. |

X3rs, That red X1S3 is really sharp looking, including the fairing. You did a great job. I did not notice the photo reversal until I read maidens post. Now that was Funny! |
